If you have the space, I'd get both. The bouncer is great for portability and travel while the swing motion is soothing for a lot of babies. I'd recommend getting them second hand for less than half the price. They are used for only a few months.
I liked having both, especially if you have multiple levels in your home. It was easy to move the bouncy seat up and down stairs while I took a shower, made a meal, or just needed an arm-break.
Expecting twins! Put on strict bedrest at home after preterm labor at 22 weeks. Hospitalized at 22 weeks and again at 29 weeks. No more please!
we only registered for the swing. I have a few friends who have been giving me hand-me-downs, so I may get other items. If we end up needing one, I figure I will buy one. There are lots of options for purchasing used items where I live.
For me, it is not only the expense, but the storage space! I just don't need/want every single baby item. We will drown in them. We have about a 1500 square foot home, so it isn't the smallest thing, but it seems there is so much "crap" for babies that I question what is actually needed.

All of this. I am glad we have the bouncy chair because it can be put in any room (including the bathroom!) and the swing is a godsend for naps~
I got both and got a ton of use out of both at different stages. LO loved the bouncer when he was really young. He had one with hanging toys and I'm not kidding, he was kicking at the toys from like week 5. He ended up breaking the toys off from how much he played with them. He was in the bouncer until he was 5 months and then we just used the swing after that.

I couldn't decide either.. But at target they have a swing that the seat part comes off and snaps into a bouncer base. I couldn't really see how it worked at the store. Party pooper husband wouldn't lift me up to the shelf so I could play with it.. But if I don't get it at my shower I think I'll buy it and play with it, see if its what I want. If not I can always return/exchange it.

That sounds perfect - do you know what it's called?

We liked having both and went with a Graco 2-in-1 swing where the bouncer just lifts on and off the swing base. Loved that thing.
Thank you! I will definitely look into that. I would like both.. But as others have said, space is sort of an issue. Having a swing and bouncer in one would solve that problem!

I got both and used both every single day. The swing sat in our living room, perfect to sit baby in while we ate dinner or whatever. The bouncer sat in our bathroom and allowed me to shower once in awhile lol.
I purchased a bouncer that also converts to a swing. It has the lion king theme and is neutral in color. I am only purchasing that because of its dual function and portability, we don't have a huge living area, the ratings are pretty good too.
We had both (in a 1378 sq foot home) and used them a lot - worth every penny. He napped daily in the swing until it died at 6mos. The bouncer was nice in different rooms and was used for another couple of months after the swing died. We were able to break both down well enough to store for baby #2.
