crib assembling and disassembling multiple times

My mom bought a crib for my nephew for her house. it was assembled in one room, then taken apart and assembled again in another room. im thinking to take the crib from her house. so it will be disassembled again and reassembled in our apt. im nervous it will make it less stable. its a good 1 yr old crib. should i be nervous if its been put together and taken apart 3 times?

Re: crib assembling and disassembling multiple times

  • Would not bother me at all. They should be made to withstand disassembly and assembly and many have to be pretty much dismantled to be converted into toddler beds or convertible beds.  Most cribs will not fit through a doorway once assembled.  A few years ago new requirements were put into effect for improved and more secure hardware.  After using the new crib for a little while, it's good to check all the joints and hardware for any loosening.

  • My friend has a crib she has used for both her kids for the last two years. They have moved three times. Each time reassembling the crib. The crib seems the same as it ever was.

  • I wouldn't be worried. I've had a crib that was used for 3 kids, and got it off a friend who used it for his two. It was used by a friend after for her 2 (it was still compliant with no recalls at the time). We set it up the last time for our friend with the first of her two and the bolts still threaded tight and weren't stripped. The install was solid with no wobbling. It was a $700 Little Folks Canadian Maple crib, I don't know if that makes any difference though. The hardware on it seems a bit more durable than the crib we have now, but my current crib has been taken apart half a dozen times because of moves and converting to a toddler bed and it's fine.
  • thanks!!

  • It should be just fine. They are made for that since they do not fit through doorways. Just check the hardware during re-assembly (no broken screws or brackets) and make sure everything is tightened correctly.
  • If it is a soft wood like pine, I would take a close look at it. Shake it, does it move much? toddlers can be pretty tough on cribs and the person who put it together could have stripped the holes.

Most likely though, the crib is perfectly fine.
