Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I hate the pacifier!!!

I have a total love/hate relationship with the pacifier. LO 2 months today obviously needs to suck to soothe, but that means we are constantly sticking the damn thing back in his mouth. We only use it for naps/bed. It's driving me crazy though, he cannot make it from one sleep cycle to the other at naps, so its usually 45 minutes, and can only make it through few cycles at night before needing it again.

Anyone else? My first son didn't want it, and now I wish this one didn't. Is it too soon to wean? Then I feel like he will never sleep.

Re: I hate the pacifier!!!

  • I hear ya. The number of trips up and down the stairs replacing the paci for DS before he falls asleel are enough to count as a gym work out here. With DD, one night after many trips to her room replacinf the paci I was in the middle of something amd didn't get up there right away and by the time I di she had found her thumb. That was pretty much tje end of the pacifiers

  • Me! Ugh! Worse part is that DH doesn't put it back in her mouth! He will say oh she spit it out so must be she doesn't want it. Meanwhile she is screaming lol! Umm she is two months. She didn't MEAN to spit it out! I now understand the whole "do not tie this around your babys neck" warning they put on the package. Not that I would ever do that!!!

You should purchase a wubbanub.  Best thing we purchased with our first one.  We now have hers (the puppy dog) and our new LO has his (the monkey).  At one month he can already grip it and put it back in his mouth sometimes.  At night it doesnt roll and is always near there mouth that all they have to do is move a little and they feel it.  It will allow you a lot more sleep.  And I love that when thrown it doesn't roll around.

  • I could have written this post myself - it's very frustrating!

We have a wubba too (only good if your baby will take a soothie), but I find that it doesn't really help. It still falls out!

Same here. We have a pacimal, but LO still spits it out if I can even get her to take it.

  • Pacifier animals that you hug? I didn't know they existed, I find that hilarious...

To the OP, they say you can kinda train them to keep pacifiers in their mouth by grabbing it so they start sucking on it harder, apparently you keep doing that and they will keep it in their mouths after a while.

  • I also love/hate the paci. It does sometimes help to soothe her, but when I'm trying to get her to fall asleep and she keeps spitting it out, it can get frustrating. This is one of the reasons I've put LO to sleep in the bed with me for parts of the night when it takes her a while to fall back asleep. It helps me keep my sanity for now.

  • I offered one to all three of mine because I felt like I should since it's linked to reduction of SIDS. I can't say I was disappointed that none of them liked it.  It always struck me as one more item to buy, remember to bring places and deal with.

  • Lol I almost got to the point I was just going to wean her from it because of that issue but at like 51/2 to 6 months she figured how to get it on her own and stick it back in so its not an issue anymore. Technically after 3 or 4 months they dont need it but it keeps her happy so im okay with it for now.
