Spitting Up

My daughter is 2 weeks old as of today. I am breast feeding, and she eats almost every hour or hour and a half. Most times, she eats until she falls asleep. I do attempt to burp her after she pulls away, or after 20 mins has passed. Oftentimes, she just won't burp.

3 days ago, she has started spitting up. I know that some spit up is bound to happen, but it seems that every time she eats, she's spitting up a lot. At least 2 tbsp. After spitting up, she requests more milk.

She is having at least 3 poopy diapers and 5 wet ones throughout a 24 hour period.

Is she spitting up because of not burping? Or could she have reflux? I don't know much about reflux. Does this behavior sound completely normal?

Sounds fairly normal to me, but of course check in with pedi about it. DS falls asleep nursing too - I have to make him get up and burp. GL!

  • Is she fussy during and after feedings? Does thecsoit uo seem to bothet her? All babies have some reflux because of their immature digestive system. If they are "happy spitters" and still gaining weight the spit up is okay
  • She is gaining weight okay, and no she's not really fussy persay. I'm relieved that it sounds normal :
  • My little guy is just four weeks and has a very similar story, except he has way more wet and poopy diapers.  The ped said it could be reflux and as long as he's gaining weight and having wet and poopy diapers, and he doesn't  seem in pain, no worries.  Otherwise he said we could try medication, or begin to introduce a soy formula and feed him half breast milk and half soy formula to see if that helps.  I really want to breast feed so as long as he's not in pain, I'll keep breast feeding.  It's just a lot more laundry and extra feedings.  Dr also said he could be getting too much to eat, and because of tiny stomach, they spit up.  Sounds like your little one likes to eat like mine... All the time:-).  After he eats, I lay him up on my chest so he's verticle and burp, that seems to help some (he also nurses til he's asleep, I usually have to detach him, uses me as a pacifier).  He said to keep him up for at least 20 min.  Hope this helps!  Good luck!
