I know there are constantly questions for suggestions on ON diapers so I know a lot of the suggestions for great fixes and I fully intend to look into ordering something better for long term but I need to figure out what I can use in my stash until I can get something else. We currently use Kawaii P&Ns and a few random Alva diapers during the day. At night I've been putting her in a P&N with 2 Alva bamboo inserts and in the morning it is quite wet but never leaked. Yesterday her back seemed slightly damp but she was also quite warm so I thought maybe she was sweaty. Today her PJs, swaddle and sheet all had a definite wet spot so I know I need to change up her night time diaper.
I do have one GNHW but I'm worried it'll still be too big for her and I only have one. She's still only about 12.5 lbs so I'm thinking at this point I more need to change her inserts rather than the diaper itself? Aside from the Alva bamboo inserts I also have Alva and Kawaii Microfiber inserts as well as some newborn Alva blend inserts. Would a microfiber insert hold more than the bamboo? I know they are a lot thicker but I thought bamboo was more absorbent? Would one bamboo and one MF be more absorbent than two bamboo or do I need to possibly add a NB insert as a doubler? I also have some bummis newborn prefolds but those things seemed pretty useless as far as absorbency so I'm not sure adding one would do much of anything.
I fully intend on trying to swing this as an excuse to get some awesome night time diapers but for now I need to find a solution so I don't need to wash sheets every day.
Re: ON help
You're right. Bamboo is more absorbant than MF. It sounds like you're already using the most absorbant inserts you have.
I have to use 2 hemp inserts for ON. I can sometimes use a microfiber with a hemp insert, but not always. I have thirsties inserts myself that I put in my alvas. I see no reason you couldn't slip in a couple of cute pockets while you get more inserts though.
Our ON option for a couple months was 3 alva bamboo inserts in an alva diaper. That worked until she was about 9 months. Then we switched to 2 bamboo prefolds in her alva cover and that works great. I take them out in the morning and 1 is quite wet, and 1 is barely damp.
