Most newborns have dry skin that peels. There's not a lot you can do, it'll eventually stop. Some pediatricians recommend lotions or something to put on it, others don't. We didn't do anything, just let it run its course.

Mine peeled from head to toe. It didn't last long and I don't think the cream did anything but make me feel like I tried! It looks horrible but it's just the outer layers drying up after being waterlogged for 9 months...it shouldn't last long.

My baby was 15 days late so all the vernix dried up and he came out very dry, flakey and wrinkly. They told me to just leave it, or if I wanted, then to use an edible oil such as olive oil. I chose to just leave it. his hands and and face have cleared up dramatically. But, it guess it also depends on why his skin is dry in the first place....
