Traveling with an 8 week old

Baby and I are flying tomorrow. Just the two of us, no one to help. Is it easier to check the car seat and stroller and wear her through the airport, even though I will have to take her off at security, or go through security with all that crap and gate check the stroller and car seat.

Any other tips for traveling with a baby that is somewhat fussy under normal circumstances? Tia!

  • In the past I've brought the stroller and carseat to be checked at the gate, but it is kind of a pain going through security. You need to take baby out of the carseat, fold up the stroller, and put both through the conveyer belt. Oh, and take off your shoes, etc all while holding a tiny baby! (And you can't expect anyone to help you. People are nerds...)

I'm thinking it would probably be easier to wear baby to the gate. Good luck flying tomorrow!

Becuase you will also have to have a carry on for "stuff" for the baby- you probably want to gate check.  I traveled with DS#1 early and gate checked.  I took shoes and coat off before taking baby out of stroller to put it through security. If you bottle feed, they also let me take water for the bottles through security- but it is easier to buy water once in so that they don't have to water test it.

I did board early and fed on take off to help alleviate the ear popping issues.  As a funny- I also took ear plugs for the people around me...just in case!

    Good luck :-)

  • I did this with DD1. They are very helpful at security when they see you flying solo with a baby. Here is a tip for the plane though. Get those packing cubes (check out ebags.com) put one in your bag with diapers, wipes, changing pad, onsie for baby and extra t shirt for you. That way when baby needs a diaper change it is an easy grab and you don't have to take the whole diaper bag to the br. Extra onsie and T for you for accidents and you can finish dressing baby in your seat.
  • I wore my baby in the Moby.  I did NOT have to take him out at security.  They just do that hand-wipe thing to make sure he isn't a bomb.  It was SO easy.  I didn't take a stroller or anything either.  We just rented a car seat with the rental car and it was great!
