1st U/S not sure what to think

So I had my first U/S this morning and I am really freaked out now. It was at a ultrasound clinic not apart of my doctors office. She had the monitor turned away, didn't say much besides its too early and she would send the results to my doctor in 2 to 4 days. I am pretty sure I am between 6 and 7 weeks and now am freaking out that something isn't right or maybe nothing is in there and will have to wait until next week to hear anything!

  • I'm sure everything went great, but I think that's kind of rude of her!

  • Sometimes the U/S techs are not able to say anything, they just have to give the results to the OB. I agree, it does stink. I hope all goes well and that the OB calls you soon!

I hope this helps, but I have had u/s where something was wrong and they didn't tell me anything but had my doctor call me while I was in the clinic and tell me to go straight to the hospital. I think SOMEONE would have said something if there was a big issue. I wouldn't stress out but I would call tomorrow, if your doctor has Saturday hours, and ask for information as soon as they get results. The technician just sounds rude. Thoughts and prayers!

  • Thanks ladies, many of my friends have had MCs so I am probably a little freaked out as its my first preg but maybe they should warn people at the beginning that they won't be telling you anything. She just kept clicking away and didn't say anything. It just seemed very different then what most ppl on the board have said about theirs. When I went in she told my DH that should would grab him later but she never did.

It is not rude at all. That is her job. She is likely legally not able to say anything. Especially since it was done at a private company and not through the doctor. I am sure she doesn't want to lose her job.

    Yes

She sends the image to the radiologist and the radiologist writes the report and sends the report or the report + pictures to your doctor, who will then relay the information to you.

Two years ago I was having a breast ultrasound and the tech abruptly put down the probe, said she had to speak to one of the radiologists and left.  5 min later she came back with the radiologist and she continued the exam.  The radiologist was summoned because the tech wasn't sure if she would want to biopsy what she found; ends up it was just a cyst, but the radiologist had to make that  call, not the tech.

When I miscarried in January I had an ultrasound at the hospital rather than my obgyns office because it was after hours.  Hospital protocol is that the techs cannot say anything; the report must come from the radiologist and then the ER doc.  That's just their protocol.
