Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Merlin Sleep Suit users: how long?

Those of you who used a sleep suit, how long did your baby wear it?

The company seems to indicate that you can use it for several months, but I'd love if we could transition out of it earlier. My son has been in his for about 3 weeks, but it's starting to get hot out here, and I feel bad stuffing the kid into a giant puffy suit.

Re: Merlin Sleep Suit users: how long?

  • My son is 5 months old and we have been using the sleep suit for about 1 month. I bought the 3-6 month size and the 6-9 month size.  I live in south Texas and we are already getting weather of over 90 degrees but we like to keep our house cold at night so I don't worry about my son getting too hot.  I just keep him in a short sleeved onsie underneath. My son doesn't use the suit during the day and only takes short naps without it so I want to use it as long as possible for night time sleeping.  Hopefully it won't be too long before he can sleep longer periods without waking himself up.

  • My son is 3.5 months and we've been using it a little over a week. The website says you're not supposed to continue using it once they can roll over in it, which is strange to me because they make it for up to 9 months and I would imagine a 9 month old would be able to roll in the suit. So, my plan is to use it until he: a. can roll over in it or b. grows out of the one we have, which is the 3-6 month size. I just feel that 6 months is a good age to start having him learn to sleep without any sort of transitional aides. I also only use it for nighttime sleeping, as one of the cues that it is bedtime.

  • DD slept in it for 3 weeks but then seemed to not want to wear it any longer, so I tried her out in regular pj's figuring I would be up all night. She ended up sleeping great and we haven't looked back! I never put her in it for naps.  She used to sleep 45 minutes for naps when swaddled but now is 30 minutes tops.  I just don't want to swaddle her any longer though.  She needs to learn how to soothe herself.
  • We have been using ours for a month.  My daughter is 1 week shy of 5 months.  She is currently in bed without it... So we shall see how the transition goes.  It was definately great for transitioning from the swaddle, but I don't want her in this for long.  She wakes up sweaty. Sooooo my answer would be 1 month?  I definately will not buy the 6-9 month size so if tonight doesn't go we'll, her nights with t are still numbered.
