Late Term and Child Loss

Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy

Now that I have had more time to process the loss of my son and everything, the researching phase has started!  Has anyone else here lost a child or has a child with HIE?

  • Hi,
I was just doing my own research and stumbled across your post. My baby girl passed away on Wednesday due to complications from HIE, she was 6 weeks old. There is a useful Facebook group called "hope for hie" that you can request to join, and another called "beautiful faces of hie".

  • Oh my gosh, Ninja, I think we know each other! :) If you understand what I mean, let me know.  Otherwise, I sound crazy!

And HIE is when the baby is deprived of oxygen, most times in the womb.

  • I lost my son to HIE (at least I think that's what it was) -  he was full term and I had a smooth labor, but his umbilical cord was pinched during the pushing stage of labor and he was born with a faint heartbeat but not breathing.  After a day or so, the EEG showed no brain activity - he had lost too much oxygen in those frantic minutes before my emergency c-section.  I'm having a hard time finding other mothers who have been through the same because it simply doesn't happen very often.
