Excessive Spitup

Hi ladies,

My 4 week old has been spitting up here and there but today has been constant. Every time I lay her down to sleep she spits and wakes herself up. I breastfeed her and hold her up 30 min after feedings. We have also elevated her crib. Nothing seems to help.

Her pediatrician doesn't think it is reflux because she doesn't seem upset when she spits up. She labeled her as a happy spitter but the spitting does wake her up.

We are both not getting enough sleep as a result.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

Thank you!!!

  • My son is like this and I can tell you that he has gotten much better.  Some days he hardly spits up at all now but at first it was SO MUCH.  I think it just takes time for their digestive systems to mature.  No advice...I just kind of suffered through it!

DS was a spitter and unfortunately it lasted until he was a year old. It didn't seem to bother him, but we knew we had to keep a bib on him all the time, except at night. It could happen 2 minutes after he ate or 2 hours. Right around a year it resolved itself.
