Trouble TTC

HSG Test?

im scheduled for hsg test next month and i was wondering about what it wld cost and if my insurance would pay for it? I have bcbsga and dont have much extra money but have to have the test done? help me get an idea of the cost.

Re: HSG Test?

  • I have bcbs of AL and they paid for mine. I had to pay $200 as a copay though. BCBS has covered all my IF testing (HSG, MRI, ultrasounds, labs)  just not any actual treatments or medication.

But you should call bcbs and ask just to be sure. Every plan is different.

  • Call your doc and get the billing codes (procedure and diagnostic codes), then call your insurance company, give them the codes and ask if they are covered.  If the are covered, how much you pay will depend on your deductible, co-insurance, and OOP max.  If it isn't covered call the doc and ask how much it will cost OOP.

i have no IF coverage so anything billed with the diagnostic code for IF is not covered.  I had to pay OOP for my HSG and it was around $1200, by the time I paid my doc, the imaging center, and the radiologist.

  • I am having one done Monday. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover anything related to infertility so I will be paying out of pocket. I will owe the hospital $500, and there is an additional fee payable to the radiologist for reading the results.

  • Our insurance (Aetna) covered part of it for us and I want to say we had to pay about $300 towards our deductible/coinsurance. Without our insurance it was a little over $1000 that was billed. I agree with PP to call your insurance company and ask them specifically, because you may have the same insurance as somebody else but 2 totally different plans.
