I work in a daycare and have for many years now. My DD does come to my daycare centre, but she is not in my classroom. We actually have a policy at our c centre where you cannot teach your child/immediate family member, so when DD was moving in to the Jr Toddler room (my room) I got transferred to Sr Preschool to accomodate her.
I get a very small discount, 10%. Its not much, but its at least something (I know of some places around here who give no discount, so I consider myself lucky!)
It seems to work out well for us. I love knowing she is nearby and I can check on her easily if she is having a rough day (or just for fun to see her smiles and playing with friends!) I am fortunate that she (for the most part!) will just say hi or come for a quick hug if she passes me in the hallway... when she is having a rough day though, it can be tough being near her and not be able to cuddle her!
DH is the head of school for a Montessori school. LO goes to a sister school until he's old enough to go with DH, because his school only take 2.5 and up. We do get a discount, but the school only gets so many discount slots, so not everyone can.
I can tell you I know some teachers have had trouble with their kids being at the same school because they know mom or dad is there, so they act out or want to be with the parent. If there's a sister school nearby, you may think about putting him/her there to avoid that and have the separation. In the same regard it has worked out as well. I think you just need to think what kind of child you have.
I currently work at a daycare and I am allowed to bring my child there for free during the hours I work. If I want to bring her before work or keep her there past the time I work then I have to pay a small fee. Also, though my daughter is too young to be in my class I know a few coworkers who have their children in their classroom. Mangement is not suppose to allow that but do it anyway.
