Ergo Insert

Hi, I know you guys get carrier questions all the time, but I scrolled a bit and didn't see a post about my question, so here goes...

Is the Ergo infant insert necessary and if yes, how long? If you had it, did you use it much or did you find yourself using wraps/slings during the time the insert was needed anyway? I have a Moby, Kai'tan, and Ergo so I'm wondering if getting the insert is an overkill. I do plan to babywear a lot, especially since I SAH with my busy 3 year old. Thanks!

I would wait.  If you have the moby and k'tan, that should tide you over.  And unless you have a very tiny baby who really loves legs in, the insert is quickly outgrown (and can be replaced by using a folded blanket.  It's purpose is to fill out the carrier to prevent slumping.  The pillow part is used when baby wants legs out but isn't quite big enough (but a folded blanket works just as well).

I would skip it. I really don't like the ergo for itty bitty babies. I would stick with the Moby and K'tan until about 4ish months.

I have the insert and wish I'd never gotten it. It's so hard for me to get her in the Ergo with the insert that I've given up. I plan to use the Ergo when she no longer needs the insert.

Agreed. I bought the heart to heart insert and tried but never used it. DD hated it when I tried to put her in there. I only began to try at about three weeks old. I used the moby exclusively from week one. Maybe if I had switched it up in the beginning as a sleepy newborn she might have gone for it but now she is over 12lbs and fits nicely inside without the insert and she loves it when she loves it.
