Pre-School and Daycare

pre-school graduation - party afterward? what?

DD is graduating from preschool next month. I know its a dumb, but its also cute. Its mid-day on a Wednesday and DH and I will be there, plus both set of grandparents. Should we do something afterward? I'm not sure if the school is going to have a reception or something. I'd love to just hang out and let her play w/ her buddies, but I feel like we need to do something afterward. All go out for ice cream? Or just tell everyone to go home and DH and I take DD out or go to the playground w/ her friends? I know my dad and FIL will be antsy after the ceremony so I either want to tell them to go or let them know what we are going to do afterward.

  • Most schools have a little reception afterward with small bites like cookies and juice before the families all head their separate ways.

  • We're just going out to dinner afterwards. I don't think our preschool has a reception after. There are actually 2 "graduation" times, 30 mins apart. I would go to lunch or for ice cream if it were mid-day :)

  • We did not have a reception after ours. I also wanted to say that if you have not already you should check if there is enough room for that many people because ours was small.

For my DD's PreK end of year celebration (they sing some songs and all say what they want to be when they grow up), they do a pot-luck lunch after.  DD will stay at school after lunch as DH and I have to go back to work.  My ILs are coming and will stay for the lunch.  Nothing else though, its a cute little program but in my mind, no different than the Spring Sing my Kindy DD had last week.  ILs came to that and then left and as this was at the end of the day, we took the girls home after.  We ended up meeting some of DD's friends for ice cream but it was a spur of the moment type of thing and very informal.
