My mom told me about this OWT a while back where you take a necklace and put something with a little weight on it.  I've used a ring or heavy pendant.

 You hold the necklace as steadily as possible with the pendant or whatever you choose in front of your stomach.  It starts to move.  If it moves in a circle, that means a girl.  If it moves from side, then that means boy.  It will go in several circles or side to side for a bit, then it will completely stop.  I think that is that part that freaked me out.

 My mom did it and her's was right, my grandma did it and her's was right too.  My mom and grandma both had a miscarriage and it even accounted for that. 

My mom had 5 pregnancies, so when she did the necklace thing it went: circle, stop, circle, stop, circle, stop, circle, stop, side to side (m/c), stop.

I was scared to do it because I was afraid it wasn't going to move, but I ended up doing it.  Mine went: circle, side to side, stop, circle, side to side, circle, stop.  My mom said that would be two pregnancies, twins, then trips....um she's crazy.  

 But, wait....there's more!  As the OWT goes, to do this on a male, you dangle the necklace over his hand.  Well what do you know, my H's was exactly the same as mine.  My sister and her fiance's were the same as well.  Crazy!

 Anyway, with all that being said, do any of you know about this OWT?  Have you done it? Was it correct?

I think it is neat, but weird, and I am very curious to see what happens in the future.  I take this whole thing with a grain of salt though....who really knows.  I just thought it was neat.

It think it's kind of silly, but my family does this too. I don't know about anyone else's results, but my mom got her two kids correct and then it said she should have had one more. She just had a hysterectomy, so I think it's safe to say it was off.

I think it's also used to tell you if you're stressed, calm, happy, etc. (might be something completely different though...)

Either way, it's a fun little game, but I wouldn't put much stock in it. 

I actually have no clue if it is some sort of aura, spiritual thing.  My mom first told me about it and she called it an OTW, but who knows.

I definitely don't put stock in it.  It is just neat and I thought about it today and thought I would share.

I didn't read the whole post. When I saw the words 'heavy pendant' I immediately thought of pendulous testicles and could no longer concentrate.

That was a really long post about something that is as real and significant as a Ouija board.

IMO.

ETA: Actually, it's insulting to the Ouija board to even make that comparison.

DH had a hippie massage therapy teacher that told the class they can do this with pregnant ladies over their stomachs to predict the sex of the baby. DH did it to my sister in law the night before her anatomy scan and it was right. He did it for her last baby too and it was also right. I can't remember if he did it for my sister for her twins or not though. 

He was also told that it could be used to predict how many/sex of future children by doing it over your hand. He did it to mine and his and we both had the same (boy.stop.girl). 

I take it all with a grain of salt since it's an old wives tale and all; DH is in to it though and likes "predicting" things so we humor him.

One of my teachers in high school had us do an experiment with this. The pendant moves based on minute movements in the muscles of your fingers. You can contol the way the pendant moves just by thinking about it moving in circles or side to side. Your brain sends a signal to your fingers causing the pendant to move in the direction you are thinking about.

My family does basically the same thing. We put a needle on a string and then hold it over the wrist. I believe it has been correct for most of my aunts. In fact I had one aunt whose said girl, boy, then twin boys and so she stopped before she got to twins in real life. haha. My grandmother always said anything that goes cattycorner (like / or ) is twins and then the sex will be revealed without the needle stopping.

Honestly I know it is based on no real science but its super fun to do. I do find it ironic that when its performed on me I always get the same results. Its never different. Why? Who knows. It is still fun.

This exactly. It's the same for Ouija boards too, the mind is a powerful thing and subconsciously influences all of these movements. Yeah, sorry, I'm a total skeptic!

Your thoughts can totally push your fingers to move the pendulum the way you intend. But basically what's happening is crystals, metal, etc pendulums pick up the energy chakras in people's bodies. It's pretty beginner Reiki stuff, and depending how it moved would then determine what kinda energy healing would be sent. You can google it :P

I'm super skeptical about it too, though it is a tradition in my family. BUT it was correct for me--and my grandma used my grandfather's wedding ring to do it (he passed away right when I conceived my son). It made her happy at least
