C-sections

dialating ?

I am scheduled to have a c-section at the end of the month. However I was checked Monday and am one cm dilated. How many centimeters will your doctor let you go before sending you to the hospital to have your c-section?

Re: dialating ?

  • I'm sure it's different for each doc, I think I've read that at 5 many hospitals will admit you.  I would call your OB and ask their policy.  Just as an FYI, from 36w4d until 39w4d I was 1cm, just today (40w3d) I was 2-3 (stretched to a 3).  You could dilate very quickly or not (with my twins I was 2cm from 32w4d until my c/s at 38w.

This. 5cms dilated and more is considered active labour at which point intervention is needed whether you're having a cesarean or not.
If you start to have any other symptoms and dilate further you can have a convo with your doc about your concerns and depending on how far along you are you could have a cesarean earlier. Same happened to me when I had DD. I dilated to 3cm and started to have contractions 2 weeks before my scheduled cesarean. I was 37 weeks so the doc did my cesarean that day lol

  • With my first section, I remember being at least 1cm for two weeks before the section.  I was completely fine.

    I had a scheduled c-section for ds#2

    at 35 weeks  = 2 cm

    at 36 weeks = 3 cm

    at 38 weeks = 4 cm

    at 39w2d = 5 cm

I had my c-section at 39w5d and was still 5 cm

ETA:  I was going to try for a VBAC if I went into labor
