Super squirmy at night

Anyone else's baby super squirmy at night? He had been sleeping through the night probably for the last month, but just the last couple of nights, he has just squirmed for like, an hour straight! Last night I tried unswaddling him, but that seemed to make it worse. I finally ended up just feeding him (which I honestly don't mind--I'd rather do all I can to keep delaying my period!) But I guess I'm just kind of at a loss of what else to try or what else I can do to make him comfortable.

and FWIW--I can't just ignore him. He'll squirm, I shush. He calms for about a minute, then squirms, I shush. Repeat. :)

Re: Super squirmy at night

  • DS is super squirmy too. He is trying to roll, so he kicks his legs and moves his arms right out of his swaddle. He also scoots all over the place, so we have to place him so that his feet touch the side of the crib. When we head in to do a night feeding, he has usually scooted himself over to the other side of the crib.

Problems only seem to arise when he loses his paci or he gets stuck on his side, but then again, we still do a feeding between 3 and 4 a.m., so the noise is something we are used to hearing.

  • My LO was getting super super squirmy while swaddle, like to the point I thought she would flop like a fish out of her rock n play. I had tried taking away the swaddle and it was a nightmare since she still had startled reflex pretty bad (hands just a whaling around). So I did some research and found the magic sleep suit- its a transition for swaddle users. I was skeptic at first but  $40 bucks was worth a good night sleep for baby and mommy!

First night we tried it in the crib and it WORKED! She just wanted to find her own sleeping grove and come to find out she is a pretty active sleeper when I watch her on the monitor. She had been grunting and squirmy for about a month so I felt bad knowing she was ready for the crib this whole time.

If you know un-swaddling wont work I recommend the magic sleep suit, it makes my daughter feel safe and secure and she can still touch her face just a little to self soothe and not wake herself up ;)

  • yep, its normal.  I wouldn't change anything.  babies wake up and move many times during the night.
