Pregnant after 35

Anyone else have to do a 2nd Mat21?

My blood draw was on the day I was 10w0d.  Today is day 16 in the wait and I just found out that there wasn't enough fetal DNA to get results, genetics counselor has assured me that it's a quality control issue and not a concern on the results.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Total BUMMER!  And the wait begins again!

I had to do a second Mat21 test for the same reason... my OB told me that sometimes it happens and that it is not a reason for concern.  My results came back negative for the trisomies, but we were unable to learn the sex of the baby, which apparently only happens in about .5% of the population.  Both my OB and Maternal/Fetal specialist said they were confident with the results which is the main thing.  Sorry for the extended wait - I know it sucks, but I bet everything turns out in the end!

  • I had my test yesterday.  My OB said it's just random in terms of how much DNA is circulating at any given time.  He said he'd had 3-4 that they had to repeat recently.  He did say they haven't really pinpointed wh and it's not necessarily related to your weeks of pregnancy or anything.  GL!

I actually had to do it 3 times! For the same reason, I was told that they can only speculate why that happens, giving two reasons: one, your kidney is working too efficiently breaking down dna or if you are obese - but again these are only speculations and the third time it worked for us :) I know how frustrating it is, we chose the materniT21 because it can be done so early on and because it is non-invasive and pretty accurate for a screening test. Hang in there!!

  • I did the Harmony test twice & then did a MarteniT 21.  The first 2 Harmony tests came back inconclusive.  I did get a result from the MaterniT 21 that the baby is healthy & a boy.  I don't know if the MaterniT 21 test was better somehow or if it was just that it was FOUR+ weeks later when the blood was pulled so there was more fetal DNA available.  I told the gal pulling the blood that I'd be willing to donate an entire pint if they thought it would help.

Hang in there, the wait was tough, the build up as you approach the date you should get results & then the let down when you find out you still don't know.  The relief was huge when I got the results.
