DH and I were recently looking into buying a Vinci tablet for DS after we saw it on a morning show. We figured it must be great since it's won a bunch of awards, but then when I went online to read reviews, they are terrible! Both Amazon and Toys-R-Us are filled with people complaining about all kinds of problems from charging port issues to crashing. This got me looking into the Kindle fire with a heavy duty kid cover. My husband already has a Nook with a computer operating system on it that I thought we might be able to use, but I can't find a baby-proof, durable cover for the Nook.
I was also wondering if anyone could recommend good learning apps. I saw some Fisher Price ones that I am sure are good. But there are hundreds to choose from, so I don't want to waste time downloading ones that aren't any good. I am looking for apps that are educational and fun for a 13-18 month old...anything with animals, numbers, letters, shapes, sounds, colors, music, things like that.
We are hoping to make our purchase before our upcoming vacation for the plane ride! Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
Re: Recommend a tablet/apps for toddlers
DD loves the Nighty-Night app for our iPad. It's like an interactive bedtime story. We got it when it was the free app of the week, but it's worth every penny of the $3 or whatever it costs. I don't know about availability for other devices, though.
That and netflix are the only ones that I ever use with DD, though we have a couple of others.
We have an Insignia Flex for our family. It was a "family" Christmas present. It was less than $300.00 and works great. I didn't want something to expensive because I don't want to cry when my Toddler inevitabley breaks it.
Favorite APPS are Daniel Tiger and anyone that goes through animals and makes noises.
I usually only do the free ones. There's lots of great ones out there actually.
Any of the interactive story books are also pretty fun for my kid.
I bought my husband a samsung tablet and it's pretty much not his anymore. Anyway he hardly used it. My girls love this one app called:
