I will be taking a 5 hour plan ride to Arizona with my 6 month old by myself. Any tips or advice you can give me about flying with a baby, how to pack (car seat, formula, etc) would be very appreciated. Thanks.
I agree with PP, give him a bottle at takeoff to help with his ears. We checked the stroller and car seat at the gate and just kept him in our lap. We had toys and he did fine and we also made sure to have an aisle seat so that we could get up and walk with him a little if he needed it.
A great thing to do...if you LO uses the powder formula, is bring bottles half full with water and an empty thermos. Then once you are past security, ask one of the coffee places to fill the hot water container. Then on the plane, you can mix the formula easily and you don't need to ask for it to be warmed and you don't need ice to keep it cool.

We flew w/ DD when she was 3 months, and it all worked out okay thanks to advice from others.
1. You can drop the stroller at the gate - no charge. I bought a bag for ours.
2. You can check the car seat at no charge.
3. Take 3 bottles of water + formula powder. I told them as we were going through security & we had no issues at DFW or ATL.
4. Almost all planes have changing tables in the bathrooms.
5. Wear your baby in whatever you have (Ergo, etc.).
6. Start baby on bottle just before takeoff and just before descent to help with ear pressure.
7. Have snacks, favorite toys, iPad, or whatever can entertain baby and pray he/she takes a nap.
8. Don't worry if baby cries or causing a fuss. Chances are you'll never see these people again!

I love your number 8!! That always is my biggest worry. Another idea is to bring a few sets of earplugs to offer those around you before take off...just to be safe. Often this will make those around you a little more tolerant if crying or fussing happens. Most won't take the earplugs, but really warm up to your jesture.
