High-Risk Pregnancy

** Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in **

This check-in is for anyone dealing with clotting disorders, or for anyone doing once or twice daily shots of Lovenox, Heparin, Clexane, Fragmin, Arixtra, etc. (you are also welcome if you are on any other blood thinners - coumadin, aspirin, etc.) This is a place for us to share our frustrations, worries and triumphs.

What?s new this week? How is everyone feeling? How are your bruises?

If this is your first week checking-in, please let us know your EDD and the reason you are on blood thinners.

QOTW: If you are doing a nursery for your LO, where are you at with it? Is it done, a work in progress, or in the planning stage? Any details you want to share/brag about? :-)

Here is a link to our injection tips:

Re: ** Weekly Lovenox Ladies Check-in **

  • Hey all! It's been a good week, nothing too much to report. We had three new mamas to add to the list from last week's check-in, welcome ladies!

Bruising & knots are getting better (had a backslide a few weeks ago, after months of having almost none of either) and Baby Shark is kicking and punching all over the place.

I see my OB tomorrow and will find out the results of my monthly Factor X level blood draw, hopefully they will say that my Lovenox dosage is still good, I really don't want to bump up to a higher dose again. I also get my RhoGAM and Tdap shots tomorrow, PLUS our final Lamaze class at the hospital. It's going to be a busy day, but better now because the class I was supposed to teach tomorrow has been cancelled due to a forecasted thunderstorm. (I teach environmental education classes to school groups, most of the classes are outside and the school decided to preemptively cancel and reschedule bc of the awful weather Chicago is supposed to get tomorrow.) Kind of a bummer, as I'm not teaching much this spring, but it will make the day less hectic.

QOTW: Our nursery is a work in progress. My father & DH spent a few hours up in the attic hooking up the wiring harness for an overhead light & fan combo (the switch used to operate an outlet on the other side of the wall) and my FIL painted the ceiling last week. DH is painting the walls as I type this, we've got a few items (curtains, crib, bookcase, glider) but we're about half way there.

I have had a bruise on the side of my stomach for over a week now. Only bruise I have had though.
So excited going to start prenatal yoga classes ASAP!

I can feel myself beginning to stretch and I love it! It is a great feeling.

AOTW: I have nursery ideas but they are more in the planning stages. We will be moving right before I am due so I am not even sure how I can really expect to do anything about it.

Hello.  Injecting going alright. I have a couple of knots which are kinda sore. Its super HOT in Mumbai right now and I feel like a whale at 18 weeks! I have popped and look more 6 months pregnant than just over 4 months pregnant.

Have some ideas in mind for the nursery but I need a carpenter and there is a HUGE strike of tradesmen here protesting a newly introduced tax. So no movement till Tuesday next week.

Hope all is well with everyone!

  • I have never posted on here, but I am 37 weeks pregnant, being induced Monday and have been on Lovenox all through my preg.  We are4 being induced Monday so that we can stop the Lovenox 48 hours beforehand and not risk actual natural labor without a planned stop date.

I had an UE DVT in Feb 2010, no clotting disease, no oral contraception history. No one to this day can tell me why it happened.  I also have an autoimmune disease called polymyositis. My rheum seems to think the swelling on my muscles may have caused the several clots to appear in my shoulder all the way down into my arm and armpit.

This is our second preg, first baby.  We lost one at 14 weeks one year ago actually.  There was evidence of fetal distress and a sub-chorionic hematoma.

I will be SO glad to take my last dose of lovenox tomorrow!  The farther along I have gotten in the preg, the harder it is to find a good spot on my belly to inject and the bruising has gotten worse.  Tomorrow I will click the last needle and I AM THRILLED.

  • I don't think I've ever checked-in here before. due date 8/23 and on Lovenox for homo MTHFR. Also have Sjrogen's which seems to be the bigger issue in the end, but it's all a haze at this point- My MFM at this point said I can acutely stop the Lovenox since "MTHFR isn't really a thing" but I'm not comfortable stopping since I've always had high homocyeteine levels, and he hasn't bothered checking ever, so here I am.  I started Lovenox at 3dpo, and it seemed to be the magij trick to keeping a pg.

I found this check-in REALLY helpful when I was TTCAL, and I'm so glad to see it came back, so Thank You Aurora for doing this! !

The nursery at this point is just a design in my head and a list furniture pieces I've selected to buy. We aren't repainting the room though, so at least that's done. I think at this point I'm just waiting for the furniture pieces I want to magically go on sale Big Smile

Just found this board and thread, I started back on lovenox on Friday. I am on a daily dose now, last pregnancy was BID. So far so good I have had my mom or a fellow nurse at work shoot me up. Haven't actually done my own, I have injected many patients though. Guess today will be my first time doing my own unless I drive to meet someone. I hate needles.

My EDD is 12/5 and I have Leiden factor v and protein S deficiency. I had septic pelvic thrombophlebitis after my last baby was born, went on Coumadin, got pregnant switched to lovenox, miscarried. This pregnancy has been 5 years in the making. I was originally taking ASA 81, until my appt with a perinatologist who switched me back to lovenox.

Hello all it has been a few weeks since I checked in. Since starting a new job and now working 2 jobs I haven't had a chance to log on.  I received great news at my apt with the MFM Dr.  today   He said I can stop my lovenox shots but they are going to keep a close eye on me and I have to keep taking 81 mg aspirin daily. We have had US at every visit all has been good and baby is measuring almost a week ahead.

Hello, checking in here for the first time. Due 12/9, heterozygous MTHFR C677T, also taking 2mg extra folic in the AM and again in the PM, and a baby aspirin daily. Been taking the Lovenox since beginning of week 7, so three weeks now.

    So what's new? Me :)

Bruises - ugh! Sometimes I get a lucky spot and only get a small purple spot where I injected, sometimes I get a huggggeee bruise. Doctor reccomended once the full on bruise forms to use a warm compress to help speed healing, but I havent done so yet.

Mommy to Patricia Catherine, born still at 22w6d, 8/2/12. Mommy and Daddy will love and miss you forever baby girl!

    Bonus Mommy to I (16), A (15) and O (12)

Furbaby Mommy to Athena, a English Mastiff

BFP: 3/27/13, We are cautiously expecting baby #2 on 12/9/13 :) Please be our rainbow little one!

Welcome! I'm not a nurse, but I was a phlebotomist for a long while, and you're right, you can be around needles all day and it's no big deal, but it's a whole new ball game when it's time to do it to yourself. You'll be great, don't worry. :-) H&H9 for you & baby!

Sounds like you've got a lot going on, I try to post the check-in on Wednesdays so if you're not able to log on often Wed or Thurs is probably a good day to do so.

Welcome! I take extra folic acid 2x daily as well for MTHFR, my little pill minder is packed pretty full these days. :-) The bruising/knots can be unpredictable, but they do get better. I'll go a month with nothing, and then all of a sudden I'll get big awful bruises 3 shot in a row. I remember one check-in where an RN posted that when she injects her patients with Lovenox she presses down on the injection site for a little bit right after the shot, and her patients almost never had bruising. Who knows if it's true, but I've been doing it recently and it does seem to help. (My theory is that it kind of forces the medicine to absorb/spread out, instead of sitting in a lump under the skin to become a bruise or knot, but have nothing to back it up with.)
