Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Ferber

So LO is 3 and a half months and were going to start sleep training at 5 months. My husbands a teacher and that's when school gets out we currently rock/shush her to sleep. We've tried drowsy but awake with no luck and Im obviously not going to let her CIO yet. I'm thinking of Ferber training. People who have had luck, please tell me how? Did you modify at all, pick them up, etc? People who didnt and chose a different method, how did you get your LO's to fall asleep and at what ages? Thanks so much

Re: Ferber

  • If you scroll down, there are two other posts about Ferber from a day or two ago.  One is titled "Sleep Training Help" and one is titled "Ferber method".

  • Seriously you posted this on 3-6 as well. These are all on the first two pages of the board. Please open your eyes. If you want to do Ferber it's recommended to do at 6 months or later. Please read a book and speak to your pedi before sleep training.

  • She probably posted it on the 3-6 month board because that is the age range of her child, and perhaps posted it here because she wanted the opinions of those who have already gone through it.  And actually, if you read Ferber's book - it is recommended at 5 months.  Honestly, someone posts about this topic every two days - she isn't the first person to double post on this issue.

OP, the book is extremely helpful in guiding you through the process.  It worked overnight for us, with minimal crying (for nighttime sleep and naps).  I tried the no-cry solutions first (No-cry sleep solution, sleep lady shuffle), and truly - those were harder on our child than Ferber.  Good luck!  :)

This was our experience as well! We waited until DS was 6 months to try Ferber after all no cry attempts failed. It took one night, and we used to have to bounce him for about 45 mins to get him to stay asleep...

  • Thank you! I couldn't have said it better myself.  I'm just trying to get opinions from all around.  I'm def. going to be purchasing the book!

I ditto the recommendation to read the book! It explains SO much and the method and why it will work. Last night was night 4 and it was our 2nd night in a row of laying him down awake, he whined for 3 minutes and not a peep from him all night! First 2 nights were a little harder but it has ultimately turned out to be less crying from him and less frustration for us...all from the labeled "cry it out method". We've ultimately been able to wean him from the paci and his MOTN feeding that was basically out if habit and not need.

    DS just turned 7 months.

  • I'm so happy I keep hearing all of these success stories.  I'm definitely going to get the book ASAP just so I can have it under my belt when we want to start.  It's just so exhausting bc she is not a good napper and I spend more of my day rocking her and getting her to sleep just so she can nap for 20 mins.  Thanks for all of the great advice!
