What...No Milk?

So for the last few days I have been getting sick after drinking a glass of milk. It is like I have become lactose intolerant!! I LOVE my glass of chocolate milk in the morning and now it just comes right back up?! GRR!! Anyone else having this issue? Had it in the past and it went away after baby? First and only times I have ever gotten sick while pregnant. Sad Doctors told me to cute the glass in half and try with out chocolate....no success. EH!!

  • Milk made me sick during the first tri.  Maybe it's just one of those weird pregnancy things you are experiencing.  Sorry!

  • I've actually been able to tolerate milk more now that Im pregnant. I had the same reaction as you before getting pregnant. So it must be a hormone imbalance causing it.

Lactaid pills will be your best friend! They are safe to take during pregnancy, and you just take one or two pills with your first drink of milk. It helps your body digest the milk easier by proving extra lactase enzyme. You can find them at any pharmacy. I always find them at Safeway.
  • I second giving lactase a try. Youd probably just want a small box to start, but if you find you are lactose intolerant, I rec buying the generic Costco brand, which works as well as and costs almost nothing compared to lactaid. Be sure to take it right before consuming dairy and keep in mind it lasts 45 min.

  • I have never been able to drink white milk at all. The smell makes me sick even prepregnancy.
I have noticed some stuff is horrible to me while pregnant though and goes back to normal after baby.

  • Chocolate almond milk is really yummy, maybe give that a try?

  • I'm lactose intolerant, and have never thrown up from drinking milk. Not saying its not a possibility, but it makes me super, painfully gassy or gives me diarrhea vs. making me nauseous. Although it actually gets better for me during pregnancy so I drink a bit here and there. Ditto pp on trying the almond milk! I love almond milk.

  • Wish I could help but I too am now the opposite. Before I was pregnant I wa starting to show an intolerance for milk and now that I'm pregnant I'm fine. All I can suggest is less milk or try almond milk.
  • I have been obsessed with the Dark Chocolate Almond Milk - I think it is made by Silk.  SO GOOD and it doesn't give me the dairy bloat...

When my morning sickness was really bad I couldn't tolerate milk or ice cream or anything dairy.

It's gone now and I am back to normal, being able to have ice cream and other dairy products.

  • My mw was really happy to hear that I am lactose since she doesn't like her patients to consume too much dairy during their pregnancy.  Dairy isn't very good for you, so maybe your body is telling you something else.  It's pretty good about cues.

First trimester I was craving beef like a mad woman.  Turns out I'm anemic.  Since starting my iron, I haven't been craving beef.  Just take a break from dairy for a bit.  Try the almond milk.  Yummy, nutritious and WAY better for you than dairy milk.  (plus no hormones or antibiotics!)
