Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Gas pains

So I'm pumping only and baby is 13 days old. Past few days she's been crying a lot bad gas pains. I'm so stressed cuz how do I know what food I'm eating hurts her? I eat all sorts of food all day. How long does it take for food you ate to get in your pumped milk? Or is this just normal cuz she's young? Or I gave her vit d drops today for first time could that hurt her? Sorry so many ?s

Re: Gas pains

  • Have you tried gas drops or gripe water? Are you getting good burbs after feeding or stopping to burb more often?
All babies are gassy, It probably isn't related to your diet. Maybe try searching youtube for burping techniques. Our lactation consultant gave us a bunch of different things to try to get gas out, but I don't think i can describe them all very well

  • Gas drops are good for belly gas only, not intestinal gas.  Try burping often and doing bicycle kicks w/ LO's legs to get the intestinal gas.  Also, tummy time helps a lot and warm baths.  Try watching what you're eating as far as dairy and gas producing foods like broccoli or beans.  Unfortunately, it takes several days if not 2 weeks to get it all out of your milk.

  • I also only pump and I've been considering keeping a log of what I've eaten and marking the bottle.  DS gets gassy during the day - he's usually fine at night (thank goodness!!!).  I haven't started doing this, but I'm thinking of it to see if there's anything in particular.  I do think a lot of it is just the fact that they're little babies and the gas is normal but painful.
