5 week growth spurt?

DD is 5 weeks 2 days old and last night and tonight she is wanting to eat just about every hour. We had 4 great nights of her sleeping for 4 hours then 2-3 then another 2-3 during the night and now it's like we've reverted or something. I know there's a 6 week growth spurt, so maybe she's early?  Technically she was born a week and a half late so if you adjust for my due date she'd be over 6 weeks now, not sure if that makes a difference.

We are BF with 1-2 midday feedings replaced with formula. Maybe I've messed up my supply and she's not getting enough from me now, hence the more frequent trips to the boob?

It is totally possible that hour LO is in the midst of a growth spurt.  Babies do not all do these things on a schedule like clockwork.  The growth spurt weeks are approximate I think, and can actually occur a bit earlier or later.  Hopefully it eases up for you soon!

  • For wonder weeks they say go by the due date instead of birthday. My son was born at 41 weeks and is early for a lot of things, he is 5 weeks today and have been holding his head up since birth for a few seconds, now holds it up for at least a minute. Last week he had his first social smile and started cooing.

He seems to have growth spurts early too. So I usually go by EDD for things like that. I am on a tablet, but here is a link...

  • how long is ur NB up during the daylight hours? It sounds youve got a growth spurt happening, but if there is a lot of day time napping happening, maybe try keeping her awake more during the daylight hours.

I was telling my mom yesterday that I think my 5 week old is going through his growth spurt...he was born a few days late so that would put him on the right timeline

She does a few naps and has a few periods of awake time during the day. Funny thing, after I posted my question DD wound up sleeping 12am-2:40am, then 3:30-4:30, then laid awake in her bassinet 5:15-5:45 after eating and then slept again 6-9am!  So it wound up being an ok night after all, it just started a little later than I wanted it to.
