Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Sleeping.

I had a sick baby last week, this week I have a baby who doesn't need swaddling and puts herself to sleep at naps AND bedtime. I am in heaven.

If your LO isn't swaddled though, what do you put them to sleep in? I have been doing footie jammies, since it's getting warmer her room is usualy 71-72 degrees. I feel like it should be enough, but not really sure. Sometimes her little hands are pretty chilly when she wakes up for her MOTN feed/diaper change. Thoughts?

Re: Sleeping.

  • Congrats on your LO putting herself to sleep! Mine just recently started doing that too. :)

My DS has never been swaddled. He rolled onto his side since we brought him home and I was always worried about him finishing the roll so I have liked keeping his arms free for stability.

He wears footie pajamas every night. Different brands have different types of cloth. I used some thicker clothed  Babies-R-Us brand jammies in the early months, but now that it's getting warmer he's wearing lighter clothed Carters and Gerber brand jammies.

Babies have poor circulation so their hands and feet will often feel cool even if they themselves are plenty warm. If their torso is warm and pink then they are warm, no need to worry.

  • My DD wears footie pjs too with a short sleeve onesie under.  The temperature in her room is 70-73.  We tried her in the sleeps sack but she didn't like it.  I think it was big and kept getting twisted around when she moved in her crib while sleeping. I just bought her a few footie pjs from The Childrens Place.  Nice cotton material and tagless.  I have bought her several pjs because I was so excited she lost the swaddle LOL!

I never knew that, quite good to know! She did pretty well, so I am assuming all of you are right and footies are good enough :)
