C-sections

clothes for baby

This may be a totally lame question so I apologize in advance... The hospital usually has csection patients stay 3-4 days. Should I pack that many outfits for baby? Or does baby usually just stay in diapers and blanket? TIA

bring several outfits...they will go through them. they're small enough and it saves you from having to send someone home for more.

i brought 6 onesies and 6 sleepers and that was good. they may or may not mess them or dirty them but it's nice to change them into clean clothes

and bring a couple nice ones or at least one cute one that you can take photos in. and i also brought my favorite blanket for DS's to lay on the bed to take pictures of them with instead of the ugly hospital blankets.

some hospitals do provide outfits but iw as glad to have my own. you can just take them home to wash later.

also...ask your hospital if they provide diapers and wipes. ours did and we went through lots!! also after you leave...take as much as you can!

if not bring a pack of diapers and wipes too. and vaseline is KEY as their poops the first couple days are VERY sticky and it just helps to get it off their bum so you don't have to scrub too much

    good luck!!

I took a cute outfit for pictures for discharge day and we packed a couple of onesies, but we never used those. Our hospital provided lots of T-shirts so we used those and he stayed in his diaper. We used the hospital blankets, which we found were much better for swaddling than normal sized receiving blankets.

I agree, take as much home as you can! Any extra diapers/wipes, blankets, anything! The Vaseline is a good idea, never thought of it! Although DH changed all of the diapers in the hospital since I couldn't get up easily so I didn't see that first tar/sticky poop.

  • DS ended up having to stay for 9 days, and I kept him in the t-shirts provided by the hospital. They were ugly, but he was swaddled pretty much 24/7. I took a few outfits for pictures and going home, but that was it. I also used the hospital blankets. I don't see any reason to take your own stuff if your hospital provides it.

The only thing I wish I had taken was a hat - he had an enormous head, and the hats at the hospital didn't fit.

This. I just brought a pretty blanket for the photos, and 2 going home outfits. One being a backup outfit in case the first got pooped or spit up on.

  • I think DD just wore what the hospital provided (diapers, undershirt, swaddle blanket), except for her going-home outfit.

This.  We dressed him for the photographs and taking him home.  That was it.

  • They put DD in a gown at first, so if you had no clothes for baby I'm sure the hospital has something. We brought a couple of onesies for DD in the hospital. We didn't change her often - she didn't spit up or have blow outs or anything. And we had one set of clothes to go home in (it was the middle of winter - can't go home in a onesie)

DS stayed in the shirt/diapers the hospital provided, and swaddled the whole time. For photographs he wore just his diaper for cute semi naked shots.  He was swaddled and no one would have enjoyed those new clothes!
