Funneling???

So I went for a check up today. About 10 days ago my cervix had shortened to 21mm so the dr decided to do a cerclage. When they measured today I measured a bit longer but he said I had a bit of funneling but the stitched looked good. What does this mean??  I'm petrified. I'm only in my 21st week

first, sending vibes that everything will hang tight and you'll hold those babies in for a while.

I googled what it is and it sounds like funneling in pregnancy is when the upper part of your cervix starts to shorten and dilate, looking like a funnel.

hi there...i actually had funneling when i was pg with my twins.  the pp is right...funneling is when your cervix starts to open from the inside.  my dr. described it like this:  if you take your hand and make it into a fist (pinky finger in the fist toward the ground) ...that's how your cervix should be.  when you start to funnel, you start to open from your forefinger and thumb...kinda like making a cone with your hands.  i also had a cerclage put in at around 21 weeks and kept baking til about 35 weeks.  good luck!

I had a cerclage at 21.5 weeks when my cervix shortened and funneled to under 1cm.  I was on modified bed rest the remainder of the pregnancy.  I was also prescribed progesterone suppositories at 28 weeks (it was more preventative than anything else) ... but I was able to keep them in until my scheduled c-section at 38.5 weeks.  Just take it easy as much as possible.
