Tell me about your labor

Hi ladies... As my due date comes closer, I can't help but think about the entire labor and delivery part of it all. I'm well aware that labor varies greatly from pregnancy to pregnancy, but I'm still very curious how your experience was!

I'd be immensely greatful if you'd take the time to copy, paste and answer the following questions as best as you can/want to for an anxious mom-to-be! Thanks in advance!!!

1. Which birth (first, second...)?

2. How did you deliver (vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...)?

3. What gestational age?

4. How long was your early labor?

5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)?

6. When did you go to the hospital?

7. When did your transitional labor start?

8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor?

9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?

10. When did you start pushing?

11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes?

12. Your baby's weight and length?

13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...)

Thank you so much!!!

    1. First baby

    2. Vaginal

    3. 39 weeks

    4. Don't exactly know how long each labor stage was (had an epidural, and lost the details on all of that since I had no sense of pain whatsoever)

    5. Don't know when Active labor started but likely a couple hours

    6. After my water broke...small contractions but nothing major

    7. Dont know when Transitional labor started exactly, but maybe around 10 hours or so after water broke

    8. no bloody show that I can recall

    9. Water broke at 7pm Friday night while I was on the computer at home

    10. 11:35am on Saturday started pushing

    11. Don't know how many pushes, but pushing lasted 1 hr 15 minutes (actually went by fast, couldn't believe it was that long - had no sense of time)

    12. beautiful boy, 6 lbs, 10 oz, 21 inches

    13. delievered placenta about 15-30 minutes after birth (again, had really no sense of time...), they had to do epideral 2-3 times because they couldn't do it right (the downfall of a teaching hospital), I was so numb that I had to make sure my husband had a good hold of my legs, or it would have slipped off the table and broke my hip! Wasn't progressing fast enough so they gave me (very small) levels of pitocin to kick it into high gear, then basically stopped giving it to me, and i started to progress on my own. Was hooked up to IV the whole time becuase I was Group B Strep Positive, so that was a little annoying (needed to let them know every time I needed to go to the bathroom - before my epi of course).

    1. Which birth (first, second...)? I'll give my first's story.

    2. How did you deliver (vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...)? Vaginal

    3. What gestational age? 37 wks, 3 days

    4. How long was your early labor? I thought I had a stomach bug, so I don't know when labor started.

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)? I have no idea. I thought I had a stomach bug, and called the Dr.at 9:30am, and was told to head to the hospital for fluids. I went in, they put me on the monitors, surprised I wasn't feeling the contractions because I was in active labor.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? 9:30am.

    7. When did your transitional labor start? About 4pm

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? Don't know

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage? They broke my water at 6 cm's.

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? 33 minutes.

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 8Ibs, and she was 18"

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) I threw up all through out labor, and delivery. The Epi gave me the chills, and I couldn't stop shaking.

    4. How long was your early labor?  Water broke at midnight, DS born at 2:34p

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)?  Water broke at midnight and I don't have any memory of how things progressed.  I just got hooked up to an epidural and pitocin at the hospital.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? As soon as my water broke.

    7. When did your transitional labor start? I don't even remember.  I do remember that DS was "wayyyyy up high" and my OB was convinced I would end up with a c-section.  He praised the nurses after my vaginal birth because they had me constantly rotating in order to get him to come down.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? Never.

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  At 38 weeks, I was 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced.

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...)  It was crazy easy.  My epidural (which I was terrified of) worked perfectly and I couldn't believe how easy the entire process was.  My second kid was even easier.  With my second, I did get really sick from the epidural (or whatever) and ended up throwing up.  Also, my blood pressure CRASHED (common) and they gave me epinephrine to bring it right back up.  No biggie.

    3. What gestational age?  41 weeks

    4. How long was your early labor?  About 4 hours - almost painless contractions in early labour

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)?  About 11:30 at night. Contractions went from painless but strong tightening to debilitating stabs in the small of the back. Not able to speak/think/do anything through them.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? right away. Got there at midnight

    7. When did your transitional labor start? I think my active & transition blurred together. Don't remember I was in a LOT of pain.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor?  Didn't notice bloody show until they came to check me because I felt like pushing

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  Water broke during pushing. Scared the crap out of me and I screamed... It splashed all over the room. :). Approximately 3:30am

    10. When did you start pushing? around 3:00am

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? almost an hour and a half... Too many pushes to count

    12. Your baby's weight and length?  7lbs 6oz, 21inches

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...)

I tore quite badly, but when baby finally made her appearance, she shot out like a canon. The assisting nurse had to block her with her arm to keep her from flying right off the table. She landed on the bed - wasn't actually caught. Apparently coming out that fast can cause a lot of damage (to lady parts). Placenta delivered shortly after; I had a PP hemorrage, so lots of shots, IV fluids, and pills up my butt.  It took about 45 minutes to repair everything down there. The blankets from the warmer were heaven once they were finished. :)

    4. How long was your early labor? 5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)?  6. When did you go to the hospital?

All these blur together, but my water broke at 2am getting back into bed, got to the hospital at 4:30 - we didn't need to go that early but I was glad we did just for my anxiety level - had contrax I couldn't feel regularly, slept some, then walked, bounced on ball, didn't feel contrax until 11am or so. Then it got slowly more intense until 2:30ish

    7. When did your transitional labor start? 4:30 after getting checked

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? not long after transition started

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage? first

    10. When did you start pushing? 6pm - went from 4-10 in an hour and a half... transition was rough

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? 20 min, no idea how many pushes... it could have been minutes or hours from my perspective. You don't really watch the clock

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 7lb14oz 21in

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) Went med free, would change that part. The aftermath was where I ran into trouble, I had 3rd degree tear outside and more inside. I started blacking out not long after he was born despite 3 bags of fluids/pit. DH cut the cord and we nursed right away, but after that I don't recall much. I spent a lot of time in recovery and came close to having a transfusion, in hindsight I would have been much better off getting one. But all in all it was so worth it and I'm glad I went med free.

    1. Which birth (first, second...)? First

    2. How did you deliver (vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...)? Vaginally with an epidural.

    3. What gestational age? Induced at 39w3d.

    4. How long was your early labor? Hard to say. I went to the hospital the night before to receive Cytotec. At 7 or 8 in the morning the nurses started Pitocin. I think I was at 4cm around noon or 1PM, although my memory is very fuzzy. That's when the contractions became unbearable and I requested an epidural.

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)? About 12/1 in the afternoon, IIRC. I requested an epidural, then my OB came in to check on me and broke my water. When I sat up to get the epidural the nurses commented on my bloody show.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? The night before to receive the Cytotec.

    7. When did your transitional labor start? It's all a blur. I was at 4cm about the time I requested the epidural, which took a while to get in place. When it was finally in place and they checked me again, I was at 8cm. That was at 2:45. I was complete shortly thereafter and they let me labor down a bit waiting for the doctor. While I was waiting for him to finish suiting up I started pushing spontaneously.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? Yes, after my water was broken. It was at the beginning of active labor.

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  See above - my OB broke my waters when I was at 4cm, probably to speed things up. It worked!

    10. When did you start pushing? I'm guessing 4:30 or 4:40.

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? I pushed for 40-50 minutes. I didn't count pushes. I thought pushing was horrible.

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 7lbs, 14.6 oz; 20" long.

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) I had unexpected bleeding immediately after he was born - apparently I tore near some unusually large blood vessels. I'm not very clear on the details and not sure I want to know more, lol. My OB said it was a second degree tear but the nurses told me third degree. I am still not sure what to believe. I don't remember delivering the placenta, but it was probably within a couple of minutes after delivery. The cord was cut and clamped right away and baby was placed on my chest for about 30 minutes before we got him cleaned up, weighed, and measured.

I was not expecting labor to be as fast and as intense as it was.

    4. How long was your early labor? I was induced so I didn't have "early labour;" however, I did have almost a month of prodromal labour.

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)? At 5am when my water broke after three rounds of Cytotec.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? The night before, to get induced

    7. When did your transitional labor start? I got an epidural about an hour after my contractions started and then I slept most of the time until LO's head got stuck.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? n/a

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage? see #5

    10. When did you start pushing? n/a

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? n/a

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 9 lbs, 14.8 oz, 22.5"

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) I had an u/s at 37 weeks because my OB was concerned at the jump in how I was measuring as compared to the previous week. The u/s tech estimated DS to be about 8lbs 8oz at that time, and that turned out to be not too far off. OB expressed concern that we might have to consider a c-section due to a number of factors, but that we were going to go ahead and try vaginally, just that I should keep the c/s possibility in the back of my mind so it wasn't randomly sprung upon me in the midst of labour. DS' head was really big and I got to 6cm before his head started to swell in the birth canal. Once my OB was done with his office patients for the day, he rushed across the street, checked me, confirmed that DS was "stuck," and 30 minutes later I was getting wheeled into the OR. When he pulled DS out, he held him up and said, "Yeah, he wasn't going to come out the normal way."

I know that as a new mom-to-be, a c-section sound really scary but I assure you it wasn't. I have no regrets, honestly. I have a happy, healthy baby who was born as Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" played over the radio in the OR.

    1. Which birth first, second...? First

    2. How did you deliver vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...? Unmedicated vaginal hospital birth

    3. What gestational age? 36 weeks 6 days

    4. How long was your early labor? Didn't really have one or slept through it. I woke up from a nap I'm active labor.

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...? When did you go to the hospital? At 10am I woke up with intense pressure and contractions every 3 to 4 minutes lasting about a minute long. I refused to believe it was labor and thought it must have been something I ate because it was so painful so quickly. At 10:30 my water broke. We left for the hospital around noon.

    7. When did your transitional labor start? It's hard to say exactly but I think I was in transition shortly after I arrived at the hospital. The pain started to overwhelm me and I was nauseated. When I was checked a half hour later I was 8cm.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? I had bloody show that morning around 6am with the rest of my mucus plug. No spotting after that until I arrived at the hospital.

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?   About a half hour after labor started my forewaters broke. When I got out of the car at the hospital I had a gush like you see in the movies with splashing.

    10. When did you start pushing?  About 2:15 or so.

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes?  About 15 minutes. I did five or six pushes where I was just trying to figure out the right place to push from. After I got it down I think I pushed through three or so contractions.

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 7lbs 1oz and 19 inches

     13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting... I think I delivered the placenta after about ten minutes. They did give me pitocin after the baby came because they thought I was hemorrhaging. Really I just had a bad tear. It was only a second degree tear technically but it went from my cervix to my anal sphincter, just not through the sphincter. It took about an hour to repair. They numbed it with lidocaine and gave me fentanyl so I would sit still better. They said I probably wouldn't have torn so badly if I would have slowed down with my pushing. I ignored them when they said to slow down to give me time to stretch because the pressure was so intense. For the next baby I will definitely slow down! For cord cutting, we delayed until just before the placenta came, probably ten minutes or so.

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 8lbs 4.3 oz and 19 inches long

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) Placenta was delivered like 10 minutes after he came out. It wasn't painful at all. Felt like passing a big blood clot from your period. I had a second degree tear. It wasn't bad really. It felt wonderful to push when I was in active labor. I had no drugs btw. I'll do it that way again. I could tell what my body wanted me to do and it worked out well. Honestly I thought labor would have been worse. Yes it hurt like hell but it didn't feel like my insides were going to fall out. I enjoyed the process!

Congrats and GL! You'll do wonderful. Don't stress and just let the process happen. It will and it'll be beautiful!

Hey there, Mama! Try to relax. Giving birth is such a natural thing and it really will be the best day of your life. :)

    1. I'm currently pregnant with my second, but I'll tell you about my first :)

    2. I delivered vaginally, but my baby required assistance by a vacuum since she was in the wrong position. I went through over 24 hour so natural labor before giving in and getting an epidural. There is no shame in that btw!

    3. My baby was 38 weeks according to my LMP.

    4. It is hard to say how long my early labor was. I was dilating and effacing even before I was in labor. I was walking around at 5cms for like 2 weeks. Once I started feeling my first contraction though early labor lasted about 36 hours.

    5. Active labor didn't start until I was at the hospital and the doctor had broken my water. Right after my water had broken the mucous plug came out too. That is absolutely disgusting. It looks like a giant booger. I was excited though because it meant that I was making progress.

    6. I went to the hospital when my contractions were 2 minutes apart lasting a minute each. It was way too early though now that I'm looking back.

    7. Transition started about 39 hours into labor.

    8. I had my bloody show during active labor as mentioned before.

    9. The doctor broke my water when my labor was stalling. I was stuck at 7cms for hours and hours so he helped me along.

    10. I started pushing about 40 hours into labor.

    11. It took me three hours of pushing until the doctor used a vacuum to get the baby out. She was sunny side up and I wasn't making progress.

    12. My daughter was 8 lbs 11.5 ounces and 21 inches longer.

    13. I delivered the placenta relatively quickly after I gave birth. You don't even really pay attention to that though because you are too busy counting the fingers and toes of your baby. :) My only advice is to put off all pain medicine as long as possible. Once I got the epidural I started to have minor complications. It is best to put it off if you can.

You will do great. Trust in your body :)

    6. When did you go to the hospital? When contractions were 5-10 minutes apart. Not super painful. We were there at midnight on the button.

    7. When did your transitional labor start?

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? Yes. Right before we went to the hospital I went to the bathroom and it looked like the start of a period.

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  It broke right when I got to 10 cm. That is when things got super intense.

    10. When did you start pushing? My body started getting pushy at 8 cm when I was in the shower. I wanted to push a lot at 9 cm and then when I was 10 cm I couldn't help but do it.

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? 2 good pushes

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 8 lbs 20 in

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) can't remember the placenta or cord for this one because I was so mesmerized by my little girl. I only tore a little bit with #2. With my first they cut me. I told them not to do it because to this day, 9 years later, I can still remember the sound. *Shutter*

    1. Which birth (first, second...)? First

    2. How did you deliver (vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...)? Vaginally, with an epidural

    3. What gestational age? 40w5d

    4. How long was your early labor? My water broke at 3 am, I had minor contractions after that until about 7 am, when I got pitocin.  Shortly after I got the epidural.

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)?  Didn't really notice active labor due to sleeping and the epidural.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? My water broke at home at 3 am, and I was at the hospital arond 4 am.

    7. When did your transitional labor start? Again, the epidural made the morning go by quickly.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor?  Yes, at 38w. I had lost my mucus plug at 37w5d, and bloody show (ended up at L&D because it was so much) at 38w.

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  Waters broke at 3 am at 40w5d at home when I got up to use the restroom.  At first they leaked just enough that I thought I had maybe peed a little more when I was done on the toilet, but then everything time I moved, more came out.  Then they really started leaking.  I went through 2 hand towels and 1 bath towel before we left the house.  I put on a large maxi pad and sat on another towel on the way to the hospital.

    10. When did you start pushing? I started pushing around 12:45 pm.

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? Don't recall the number of pushes, and time really flew by.  I knew I started pushing at 12:45 pm, and DD was born at 1:46 pm, but without looking at the clock, I would've said 15-20 minutes.

    12. Your baby's weight and length? DD was 8 lb 6 oz, and 20.75 inches.

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...)  After DD was out of the canal, all I heard was "look look" and I thought they wanted me to watch her come out (I didn't want to watch), so I kept my eyes closed and I just kept pushing.  I credit this additional couple pushes to getting the placenta out very quickly.  It felt very relieving to get it out.  I didn't really feel much of the contractions.  The nurse had checked me at 12 pm and I was still only 2 cm, but could feel the epi wearing off, so I asked for another one.  They gave it to me at 12:05.  At 12:15 I started feeling a lot of very uncomfortable pressure and told the nurse the epi must not have worked.  She checked me again and I was at a 10 and ready to go.  She could feel DDs head.  Because I went from a 3 to a 10 in about 15 minutes, I had a good amount of internal tearing.  I believe I had somewhere around 25 stitches.  I barely tore on the outside, enough for a 1/2 stitch, but since you can't do a 1/2 stitch (LOL) I got 1 stitch on the outside.  Recovery was rather painful and long due to that tearing.  But all in all, it was a rather quick and painless delivery.  I loved the epidural and the fact that I got a couple additional hours of sleep at the hospital before she was born.  From the time my water broke until she was in my arms was around 11 hours.  If I could choose how to deliver #2 (if it ever happens), I'd want it to be like this.

I realize you are probably not needing this anymore - but will contribute all the same - esp since it seems we need a Ppreemie mom perspective.

    1. Which birth (first, second...)? - FIRST2. How did you deliver (vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...)? VAGINALLY WITH EPIDURAL3. What gestational age? 35 WKS 4. How long was your early labor? IDK - I WAS INDUCED AT THE HOSPITAL - IT ALL JUST RAN TOGETHER5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)? SEE ABOVE6. When did you go to the hospital? HAD BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 5 DAYS BEFORE THE DECISION WAS MADE TO INDUCE (quite possibly the worst words a mom can hear while you and your baby are both in mortal peril is that "your baby is safer being born early than staying inside you" - makes you feel like a great mom already...)7. When did your transitional labor start? IDK 8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? NOPE9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  MIRACULOUSLY THEY BROKE ON THEIR OWN 9 HOURS IN10. When did you start pushing? AT 26 HOURS 11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? A WHOLE LOT - PUSHING LASTED 30 MINUTES12. Your baby's weight and length? 18 INCHES - 4 LBS 8 OZ

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...)

How I managed to rip open and need 5 stitches delivering a 4 lb baby I am still unsure of. So much was out of my control with the delivery - she was so early and high risk - that situation every thing on your birth plan goes right out the window. I didn't even get to hold her for what felt like forever - they had to check and make sure she was able to breathe ok. I only got to hold her for about 3 minutes when I did and then they had to take her to the NICU. It was one of the strangest things I have ever experienced - having been in labor for so long, after such a tough pregnancy and suddenly I have just given birth but I have no baby to hold and do not know when I will be able to see her.

In regards to epidural - if you are like me and have reacted to pain medications "poorly" I would suggest skipping it. I got one (against my original birth plan) because the whole situation had gone nuts and I didnt know how long I would be laboring. I was on magnesium sulfide, pitocin, fluids, anitbiotics, a blood pressure cuff that went off every half hour - So i was stuck in the bed on my back the whole time - no chance to walk around, use the shower, ball or any of that. Unfortunately I metabolize pain meds stupid fast - I felt all of pushing and the worst parts of labor and there was nothing more they could do for me (lots roll their eyes and say "sure, but you dont know how it would have felt without the epidural" I could feel the contractions coming on and started pushing before they showed up on the monitor - even the nurses were like "your epidural is not doing squat".)

    3. What gestational age? 40 weeks

    4. How long was your early labor? about 12 hours

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)? I had contractions at about 3am. I went back to sleep until 5 when I couldn't sleep through them anymore.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? 9:30

    7. When did your transitional labor start? At around 11am

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? I don't remember

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage?  They broke my water at 11 and I was complete in a half hour.

    10. When did you start pushing? About 12pm

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? Forever! It took until 3:21 to deliver. Apparently I was a bad pusher, or his head was enormous. I actually had to play tug of war with a nurse and a bed sheet.

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 8lbs, 21 inches long

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) My epidural was put in about 10 and at around 11:30 it stopped working. I could feel everything. They were going to try to put it in again but they checked and I was fully dilated. I really wish I had gone completely natural. That 1 and 1/2 hours of pain free was wonderful but because I had it they wouldn't let me out of bed. It was awful to be in so much pain and not be able to move around. I also think I needed to push in a different position. They tell you to push like going to the bathroom but I have never gone to the bathroom laying in bed so it was quite unnatural. I know I tore because I felt them stitch me up but I didn't ask how bad, I think it was better to not know.

    1. Which birth (first, second...)? First

    2. How did you deliver (vaginally, c/s, epidural, water...)? Vaginally, Induced (cervical ripening w/ Cervadil then Cytotech when that didn't work) with Pitocin.

    3. What gestational age? 39 weeks

    4. How long was your early labor? I was having contractions from 5pm Monday night through 9:30am Wednesday morning when they finally broke my water.  They said that was from the ripening medications.

    5. When did your active labor start? Time? Signs (i.e.: contractions, waters breaking, bloody show...)? After they broke my water, contractions got stronger pretty quickly, and then when Pitocin was started at 11:30 (only at "2" dose of it, not sure what that means, lol) they got really strong. Asked for epidural at 2pm.

    6. When did you go to the hospital? Monday night when they told me to :) Not realy relevant for your main question :)

    7. When did your transitional labor start? 6pm (8 hours after they broke my water)

    8. Did you have a bloody show? What time? Which stage of labor? Not sure

    9. When did your waters break? What time? Which stage? Doctor broke it for me.

    10. When did you start pushing? They told me not to push (called it "laboring down" when I was 10cm because baby was still at a 0 station.  2 hours later, I told them I couldn't wait any more (they kept telling me to) and I was going to start pushing, they said okay.

    11. How long until your baby was out? How many pushes? I was pushing for about 1.5 hours.  I'm not really sure how many pushes, but I think I was doing one set of 3 pushes every 2-3 minutes ... so maybe 30-40 pushes?

    12. Your baby's weight and length? 7lb 12 oz, 20" (they kept telling me she was going to be close to 10lbs!)

    13. Additional details you wouldn't mind sharing? (i.e.: how long until you delivered placenta, tearing, cord cutting...) Delivered the placenta within 10 minutes.  Cord was cut shortly after birth by DH's mom.  I had a very small tear (that is what I was most worried about) requiring 2 stitches but that was it.

    4. I had been having mild but pretty consistent contractions about every 5 minutes before we showed up for the scheduled induction at 9pm wednesday.

    5. Nurses weren't very specific about what constituted active labor... they said that "labor" meant cervical change, and I was progressing slowly, so who knows.. my water broke at 5:15am Thurs, and baby was born at 5:10am Friday.

6.Went to the hospital for induction at 6:30pm wednesday night.

    7. Transitional labor probably started at about 8:00 pm thursday night.

    8. Did you have a bloody show? yes... I don't remember when. sometime thursday afternoon.

    9. Water broke at 5:15am Thursday morning.

    10. Started pushing at 3:00am Friday morning.

    11. Pushed for two hours.. finally had assisted birth with vacuum.

    12. 8lbs 10 oz, 22.5 inches long.

    13. Placenta was delivered almost immediately afterwards, definitely had tearing, but the doctor indicated that it was "normal/typical" nothing extreme. cord cutting had to be immediate because there was meconium in the AF.

I am also pregnant for the first time, and these labor stories really helped me. Although I am scared for the actual labor. I myself was born about 4 feet from the hospital doors. My mom was almost 10 months preggers. I was born at 5 lbs 4 oz and my mother's labor lasted maybe an hour. I was her first. She waited too long to go to the hospital. She got 5 stitches, but all in all healthy delivery. They would not let me into nursery. She said her Med free natural delivery was although less traumatic than it sounds. She says once you are holding the baby it seems like a major relief and she was no longer worried about the delivery. Everything works itself out.
