OPK question

I know you ladies already told me this but pretend I'm new here...

I ordered the Wondfo OPK's from Amazon and started 2x a day yesterday.  Do they get darker as you get closer or does the darkness not matter until is is a positive result?

FTR, we aren't TTC yet but I need to get a handle on my cycles so that when the time comes I know what my body is doing and if it is regular.  It is looking like having Allison helped regulate my PCOS issues (doctor said it may happen!).

Re: OPK question

  • It depends on your body. Some women (me included) see the tests get darker until they are positive, others don't. It doesn't matter though because it means nothing until the test line is as dark, or darker than the control line. The whole "A line is a line." mantra doesn't work with OPK's like it does with HPTs.

From what I understand it can depend on the person. Some people are lucky enough to see it darken so they know it's coming but some people go straight from light to dark. If you do see it get progressively darker then it does mean you're close to Oing.

  • The digital tests work differently. They will give you a smiley face when they detect a surge. A box comes with one monitor and several test strips. I've seen boxes of 7, 10, or 20. If your cycle is average length, it is suggested to start testing on day 10. If the test is negative, you'll get a circle or a NEG line. Once an LH surge is detected, you'll get a smiley face or POS lines. The monitor will compare each strip to your previous test looking for that surge. If you catch the beginning of your surge, it is possible to get another smiley face if your LH levels are higher than your first smiley. If your levels are the same or lower, you won't get a second POS. It is very common to get only one POS which is why the box says once you get a POS there is no need to keep testing. The nondigital tests compare your LH to a TYPICAL or AVERAGE when it gives you a dark line and it obviously doesn't compare your tests to previous tests you've taken so it so you are likely to get more than one POS in a row depending on how frequently you test. The digitals are nice for women that do have a surge that is weaker than the average because the line may never be as dark as the test line but ovulation may have occurred.
