Adoption

Update to intercountry adoption

We're officially moving forward with our DIA. I love our agency and I feel so much safer doing it this way. We learned that the foster requirement, although removed by the court, is still sometimes required and it's on a case by case basis. My husband's family member that adopted a little girl (they live in the country) had her removed from the home the day I made my first post (they had her for 16 months). :( Family members who had never met her decided they wanted to parent. We already lost a child, I can't put myself through that again.

We hope to get our application in to the agency next week and get a few grant applications out the door soon!

  • I'm sorry you are closing the book on your dream of a Malawian child.  I know how hard it must be to make that decision.  :-(

I wish you all the best with your DIA process.  We're here for any questions you may have, or just to offer support!

  • Just wanted to wish you good luck with DIA!

Yes! I was born here and have lived here most of my life. Do you still have family in this area?

  • I'm sorry it's not looking promising. I hope that you find fewer obstacles on your new path.
***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.

*dirty lurker from GP alert (I follow this board, b/c my dad was adopted from an orphanage at age 7 or 8 after being surrendered to social services at age 4.  Adoption may or may not be in our future)

I am so excited for your adoption journey P! I am glad it looks like you have part of your path decided!  Smile

  • Hi Panda, I lurk around here and just want to say that I love following your story, and best of luck to you. I'm sure that was a tough decision to make, but you sound confident in your choice.

    Started TTC July 2012. Missed m/c & d&c 9/12 11w. Natural m/c 1/13 6w. Chemical pgs 3/13 & 8/13 around 4w. Currently TTA while saving for adoption.
