Is the K'tan really worth it?

We got the Baby Bjorn without doing much research.  After the fact, I'm finding it's gotten a lot of horrible reviews and everyone raves about the K'tan.  I haven't even taken the Bjorn out of the box and am wondering if I should return it and get the K'tan instead.  I pretty petite so I don't even know that I'd use it (thinking it'd hurt my back) but would love to hear if anyone thinks it's a must have.

  • I dont know anything about the baby Bjorn but a friend gave me the K'tan and I absolutely LOVE it! I would not be able to get through the day with out it. I use it every day and it helps so much when I need to run errands or get house work done.

  • I bought the K'tan but unfortunately so far my LO hates being in it. But she hates being confined and swaddled. I would say if your LO likes to be swaddled and held tightly to you for long periods, than it would be worth it.

  • We also got the Bjorn without doing research and came to find out it got some not so great reviews. Plus, it is super complicated to figure out. We exchanged it for an Ergo... way easier to use... so far our son seems to like it and it's pretty comfortable to wear.
  • I've had a Bjorn, Ergo, Moby, and now have a k'tan too.

The Bjorn is bad for LO's hips. Although it's probably the easiest to use I would return it if I were you.

The Moby was a PITA and I gave it away.

The Ergo is awesome, especially if you have back issues.

We haven't tried the k'tan with LO yet but it looks promising!

I have the k tan and love it, I only wish I knew about it when I had my first!

It's so so simple to use and LO loves it!! It makes getting anything done possible and actually makes me feel confident in taking two young ones out by myself.

I also have the ergo but I probably won't use that until LO is older.

  • I would try it on with your baby. We had lots of help, including a babywearing educator, and couldn't get a good fit.

We found the Boba wrap was fine since we could adjust it to fit us. I thought I would be overwhelmed by the tying which is why I wanted a KTan, but it wasn't bad at all.

This sounds just like me, although I also have a Beco Butterfly 2 which I'm really liking.  It's a structured carrier like the Ergo but the baby is actually strapped in which makes it seem a little more stable than the Ergo and it doesn't require a bulky infant insert (it comes with one but it's more like a smaller harness).  The K'tan is more "snuggly", but I do feel like I still need to keep a hand on DD to make sure she's stable.  I feel like I can be more hands free with the Beco.  A couple other things I like about the Beco is that it can grow with your LO and used similarly to an Ergo where I think the K'tan is best when they are little.  Also, the Beco is one size whereas the K'tan is sized so unless you and DH are similar sizes, it may not work for both of you.

  • I just got my K'tan last week and I'm in love with it!!  I'm petite too, (5'2") and nothing else I tried worked for me.  I couldn't get our baby bjorn tight enough, the sling my SIL gave hurt my shoulder and I didn't feel like my LO was secure in it.  I was going to get  Moby but was worried I wouldn't be able to figure out how to wrap it, which is when I discovered the K'tan.  I read a ton of reveiews and even though it's kinda pricy, decided to get one because I was desperate.  My son does not nap and I couldn't get anything done because he wants to be held all the time.  Anyways, the K'tan is perfect, easy to get on and get DS in, comfotable for me, and he usually falls asleep in it.  It did make my back a little sore the first few times I wore it, but I had it on for close to 2 hours both times.  I think it's well worth it!!

This is me too, but I will say I'm worried about the longevity of the K'tan. I'm thinking LO and I will be way hot in it this summer. We had one fluke 80 degree day this spring. I took my DD1 to the playground and wore DD2 and we were both super sweaty.

I'm also wondering how it's going to hold up when she is bigger and heavier. It's great now while she's little and likes being cuddled, she falls right asleep in it. But I think I'd like something more structured for when she's bigger, like an Ergo or Beco.

  • The k'tan has been such a lifesaver for us.  LO is really fussy and on his worst days, I will wear him for most of the day bc it soothes him right down.
