Parenting after a Loss

Lucky

So, one of the things DD loves is riding around in the carrier facing out.  It doesn't matter if we're walking around the neighborhood, the store, or wherever, but it always keeps her happy.  Well, tonight she was starting to get fussy, and I, quite honestly, couldn't just chill in the house calmly anyway, so we went to walk around the outdoor mall by our house.  Spent way more money than I intended, but that's not my point. (New blue and zebra Sketchers wedges anyone?)

Sorry, rambling.  Here's my point: we walked by a woman holding hands with her ~10yo daughter, obviously shopping themselves.  The lady stopped me and gushed over E and said a huge "she's gorgeous."  We had a few comments while walking, but what got me with this lady was that she was with her daughter, and I thought someday that's going to be me and E walking around the mall having a great time just hanging out with each other.  And I'm very lucky that we will have that.  I'm very lucky to have her.  Losing another baby has really driven this home today.  It's near a damn miracle that she's alive, much less happy and healthy.  She's my lucky one of seven, and I am SO amazingly lucky to have this gorgeous little rainbow as my daughter.

Re: Lucky

  • Gratitude for the blessings we have is such a beautiful thing.  I'm so glad you received such a wonderful compliment of your daughter when you are feeling so much sadness about another loss.  I know it doesn't take all that pain away though...<<hugs>>

Amen. I think of this every day.

  • Having D in my arms was the light that helped me through the time right after my last loss. Even on the hardest of days, his smile made things better and his needs forced me to not dwell [well, then anyways...]. Having him in my arms was like proof that miracles can happen, and thankful doesn't begin to cover how I felt, and still feel, for him.

    Big hugs, Mork.

It's incredibly hard to see the wonderful things when we're devastated.  I'm so glad that you saw your little girl and were so open to letting in the sunlight and happinesss.  I know it's not easy - and my heart is aching for you Mork.  (((BIG HUGS)))
