Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Eggs for breakfast?

I just wanted to get some opinions/suggestions. My DD eats fruit at lunch and a vegetable for dinner. We just started adding chicken at dinner and she had some pasta at lunch time yeterday. She does wonderful with solids! I would like to add something for breakfast, other than oatmeal. Any suggestions?

I make all of my own baby food and typically refer to www.wholesomebabyfoods.com for recipes etc. Apparently, egg yolks are okay for baby starting at 8 months. Has anyone given their LO eggs (whole or just yolks) to try?

LO had a scrambled egg with toast on Friday morning. He loved it.  We have ZERO food allergies in our family so I wasn't too worried.

We started with egg yolks (hard boiled egg yolks) mixed in with a bit of water and oatmeal. We started giving him scrambled eggs at about 9.5mo.

He also eats cheerios, pancakes, and fresh fruit or fruit purees for breakfast.

Maybe you could introduce yogurt too?

I agree, we gave DD1 egg yolks boiled. It's the egg whites that you want to avoid for allergic reasons if you have a history of high allergies, and the best way to separate the white from the egg is to boil them. We just have some higher risks for allergies, so I avoided the whites until after a year.

  • DS got scrambled eggs at 9 months. Today we went to the allergist for a checkup (he has some food allergies) and took sister along for the first time. As we were leaving he suggested we give her eggs along with all of the other typical possible allergy foods that were once recommended to hold off on. He said the sooner she gets them the less likely she will be allergic. She's not ready quite yet but soon.

We started at 6 months (ok'd by our pedi). We started with the yolk and then did the whole egg. He wasn't super into the texture of scrambled but really liked a hardboiled egg pureed with some yogurt and some paprika on top!

  • We gave her some scrambled eggs. We also do yogurt, pancake, waffle, oatmeal with fruit in it.

  • DD had scrambled egg yolks Sunday and then I ended up giving her a waffle made with whole eggs and buttermilk! She did great and loved it!

  • DD has had the entire egg scrambled. She didn't care for it, but she didn't have a reaction.

  • Thank you for all of the responses! I gave her eggs yesterday for dinner and she did exceptionally well with them. So far, no reaction. I even gave her a piece of toast to munch on. It went much better than I thought!

  • No need to hold off on any part of the egg unless you have a family history of allergies :)  My LO loves scrambled eggs as a finger food.
