Kids eating salads?

Since we were talking about salads in the food post - do your kids eat salad?

Tatum will eat potato salad or pasta salad or tuna/chicken salad, but a lettuce-based garden salad? Nope.  She'll eat the cucumbers and tomatoes and other raw veggies out of it, but she doesn't like raw spinach or lettuce.  Or raw fresh herbs, for that matter - I was picking and eating basil leaves off the plant in my kitchen while she was eating dinner the other day, and I gave her one, but she spit it right back out at me.

Re: Kids eating salads?

  • Augie doesn't like potatoes, pasta, chicken, or veggies, lol.  So that pretty much rules out all salads previously listed : )

He loves "veggies and dip" but what he loves is licking the dip off the veggies. *sigh*

I always offer when I'm having a salad.  And I have them frequently so it's not like they are foreign to him.

  • No lettuce, but he'll eat everything else. He doesn't care for potato salad, but anything noodle based he will eat.

Same goes for Owen as Tatum. he loves cucumbers, cheese and black olives from my salad. sometimes I give him balsamic dressing for dips if I'm trying to get him to eat.because I know he enjoys it!

  • If you count sucking the dressing off and spitting out the lettuce/spinach, then yes, DD loves salad.

It's actually the same method my dog has in eating salad, which is unfortunate since it means he won't pick up the discarded lettuce for me.

  • Max tears lettuce up in little pieces and then doesn't eat it, so no, salads are a no-go around here for now.

J won't eat lettuce (or anything leafy like spinach).  We rarely have chicken/potato/tuna salad, so he hasn't been exposed to any of those yet.

  • Sean is the same way. He won't eat anything leafy, (unless it's cooked) but he chows any other veggies. For now, I'm happy with that.

Yeah, same here - at least they're eating veggies, right?!

  • She might eat a few bites of tomato, but other than that, she won't touch a salad. I can't seem to find any dressings that she likes (even ranch!?!), so that might be part of the reason.

  • Am I the only one who hasn't tried to give lettuce? When I make T a salad, I make it with everything but the lettuce...I just assumed she wouldn't like it, plus its sort of a choking hazard and no nutrition anyways so I just leave it out.

But she loves everything else [tomatoes, cucumbers, cottage cheese, shredded cheese, chicken, ranch, olives, carrots, and croutons..LOVES croutons]
