Success after IF

What to send?

My friend's brother's baby (he's 2) is in the hospital.  As soon as he is out of ICU, we wanted to send something.  But I hate sending flowers.  It's such a hassle bringing home all those flowers from the hospital, and they just sit on your window sill dying while you're entirely too busy caring for a sick baby to really care (sorry if that seems super negative, that just seems to be my experience.)

So does anyone have any better ideas?  What can I send that will actually be helpful?  Or something they will be able to use and appreciate?  Thoughts?  TIA!

  • My FIL was in the hospital a few weeks ago and while he did get some flowers, the biggest hit was a basket of snacks. There were crackers, chips, drinks, fruit, and all kinds of other good snacks stuff. Sometimes meals are hard to go out for to leave the LO so I think that'd be really helpful. I'd also include a roll or two of quarters. Vending machines are expensive and if they're like most of us, they probably don't carry change around. That could help them get drinks and that type of thing!

i work in a hospital and I strongly agree with this. Plus some activity for a 2y old to do once they are feeling better but aren't yet well enough to go home. It is very tough to entertain a 2yo in one room all day.

Great ideas ladies! The hospital is in another state so I don't know much about what restaurants are in the area. But the snack basket would work perfectly!

  • FWIW, I'd check with some florists. I think the two baskets my FIL got cane from florists.

  • Are the parents at their home or staying up at the hospital this entire time? (Here in Houston, a couple of the hospitals allow parents to stay at the hospital.)

If they are at home, I would do a casserole they can eat on as they probably don't have time to cook meals.

If staying at the hospital or a hotel near the hospital, I might make them a gift/goodie basket of foods they can eat/snack on at the hospital...maybe even some home made goodies.

The gift card to a nearby restaurant is a good idea, too.
