5 weeks along - first pregnancy and looking for the perfect book. Any suggestions? I've read that What to Expect When Your Expecting may not be the best option.
Congrats!! My girlfriend really liked Dr. Oz's book "You: Having a Baby" - it's less scary than WTEWYE. Dr. Sears' "The Pregnancy Book" is also great, more on the natural side. I started out reading so much and then I had to stop because it was just starting to scare me a little. It's great to be informed but there is a tipping point for me, I think! I read a lot of info online now as well.

One book that I read -and loved- was the baby bump by Carley Roney. The editors from The Bump also helped write it. Lots of fun pictures and information without scaring you. :-)

The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer (good info re: common interventions so that you can make informed decisions!)
Birthing From Within by Pam England (good to help you work through fears and move into excitement and feeling prepared!)
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (good info along with realistic birth stories which are NOT the too common horror stories that seem to always get the most attention on the web).
Sheila Kitzenger's books are great as well
While your at it, how about watching some great DVD's such as The Business of Being Born, followed by More Business of Being Born, available at some excellent video stores, through NetFlix, and I believe throught the business of being born website as well.
Yay for you for wanting to be informed and prepared!!
