Dr. Google....

So R was sick all last week.  Tuesday night he spiked a fever of 103.8 and held a 102-103 fever for 3 days.  He was lethargic and had zero appetite.  Took him to pedi on Tuesday and he said it was just a virus.  Took him back on Friday because he was still not better and was more lethargic than early on.  The pedi on friday said he had white sores on his throat so he diagnosed him with Tonsilitis.  Yesterday (Saturday), Rob felt great.  No fever and he was back to his old self.  In the late afternoon I noticed that he had a mild rash (not bumps just red spots) covering part of his belly, back, and neck.  We thought maybe it was just a side effect of his antibiotic (for ear infection).  The rash is still there today so I did a google search for baby rashes.  I found an article on Roseola and I'm certain that this is what R had!  Looks identical and it came on as soon as fever broke (which is what Roseola does...) Anyone else's kiddo ever have this?

  • Yeah C had it last year along with an ear infection. The rash looks nasty but it doesn't bother them and you just have to let it run its course since its a virus. It typically starts near the top of the body and works its way down until it disappears.

  • I really don't think this sounds like it, but look up foot and mouth disease to compare bumps. It sounds gross, but it's not that big of a deal. DD had it a few weeks ago and it's characterized by a lowgrade fever for a couple of days and then a red bump rash develops, but usually around the mouth, feet and genitals. No treatment, you just wait it out. Although, if there are inner mouth sores you can use Motrin or some sort of numbing ointment to help reduce the pain so their appetite improves. DD didn't have them luckily, since it was a mild case. Good luck!
  • Yes but call dr they'll diagnose also mono starts with rash for some.  My daughter had it 6-8 weeks for the rash to go away.

Yup, DS had fever over 103 then when it broke the rash came. It was most pronounced on his neck and trunk. Started to disappear within a day.
