Belly Rash?

DD has had a rash on her belly for about a week and a half now.  It doesn't seem to bother her - she hasn't been any more fussy, and she doesn't wince or react at all when I touch it.  It's a few little red, blotchy areas that are a little bit bumpy (kind of looks like heat rash).  Isn't really getting better or worse, it's just maintaining.  She had a little cold about 3 weeks ago, could it be related to that?

We haven't changed anything in the house... We use a little squirt of J&J head to toe in her bath every other day, otherwise just plain water.  We use Dreft on her clothes, Tide powder on her cloth diapers.  But if it was soap related, wouldn't it be other places besides just her belly?

She isn't eating solids yet... Just breast milk.  And I haven't eaten anything new lately.

Anyone else have odd rashes before?  I don't want to take a day off of work just to take her to the pedi when it isn't bothering her and she doesn't have any other symptoms... But of course I would if it got worse or she started to have other symptoms.  Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Re: Belly Rash?

  • Only things that come to mind are eczema, heat rash or a viral rash. I think you should just call the office to see if it is something that warrants taking her in.

  • Both of my boys get the belly rash whenever they have a cold. Moreso my toddler when he's running an ear infection. I would call just to have it checked out.
  • Is your LO rolling over or scooting around on her belly at all? Maybe it is a texture of some of her clothing or the floor that is irritating her skin? You could try some Cetaphil lotion or even some Cortisone cream on it. That what the doc would recommend for eczema anyway. My little guy's skin gets irritated by certain textures of clothing.
