stickers v. stencils on textured walls

We have bumpy walls and are trying to figure out if stencils and/or decals would work on them. Anyone have any experience? They are bumpy "orange peel" walls.

  • I would think it would be hard to make stencils look crips. I think decals are the way to go. I have put them on 2 different kinds of orange peel finish without problems, but a friend ordered decals that didn't stick to hers. Whatever company you use, I would ask for a sample to try 1st.

  • We have textured walls with a almost slight gloss sheen to the paint (texture might be described as skip trowel) ... got the peal and stick alphabet from Target ... didnt stick for more than 2 days. Did great job staying on door that is much smoother and painted with a gloss paint

  • We have orange peel walls with semigloss paint, and our decals look great and have been up for almost 3 years now.  We applied as a two person job and really took our time smoothing it out, and it looks great!

  • We have decals with orange peel texture and eggshell paint. They've been up for 2 years and look brand new! I had the company send me a sample to test, and like pp said, we were really careful applying them.
