So I was hoping a few of you ladies could help me.
I am currently back in the job market after DH and I had a late 20 wk loss a little over a month ago. We really would like to get started TTC as soon as we are off the bench in July. My question for you is let say I started a new job mid May how do you think they would react if I told them in let say Nov or if I could even push it to Dec that I was expecting and taking off for 6-8 wks or more in April?
I am nervous and the whole reason I am back in the job market is that my last boss let me go only 3 days after I told him I was expecting back in Feb. and I was there for 1.5 yrs already. I am wondering how a new job would take the news after me only being there for 6-7 months.
What are your thoughts.....DH was debating having us wait until Sept to TTC if I had an offer this month because then I would be there for a year before going out on leave.
which fingers crossed I am hoping for an offer this Monday after a fabulous interview and good follow up call. Sorry for the rambling I just cannot get this off my brain
Re: Need advice
First, I am sorry for your loss.
And Unfortunately it seems like it is really hard to predict how a boss will respond after you tell them you are PG. I have seen all types of good and bad stories on here. I mean you were at your job 1.5 years and they still let you go, so my theory is live your life and get PG when you want and hopefully things will work out. I watched coworkers plan their pregnancies perfectly (I am in education and everyone plans for a april, may baby). I tried that and it didnt work. It took me 9 months to get PG and got PG and was due in December and then had a m/c and then it took me 6 months to get PG again and my son was born in July. It was fine and I am not complaining about the time it took me to get PG as I know some take a lot longer, but it was what it was and at that point I didn't care when I had a baby just wanted a healthy one.
This. Do what works for you and your family. When i had my DS, I started the job in January and unexpectedly got pregnant in May. I had hyperemedis gravidarum and ended up being off work almost my entire pregnancy plus three months post partum, 11 months total. My employer was great and totally accommodating. So you just never know. I wish you all the best with a healthy pregnancy.
I am sorry for your loss

First - I am so so sorry for your loss.
I am TTC #2 and contracting, and planning on taking a full time position here in the next month or so. I also have a long history with this company working here off and on 7 years and DH also works here, but still, I haven't thouight twice about accepting a job while TTC (and I had no issues TTC #!). I have zero plans to tell them and expect to take 12 weeks off after I have the baby.
As I mentioned - DH works here and he is in middle management - and maybe it is because it is a (very) large corporation the rules are different, but you are legally not allowed to ask about pregnancy, nor are you allowed to treat someone different for announcing it, even if its the day after they are hired. There is also protection from firing someone for being pregnanant and/or wanting maternity leave, and FMLA guarantees time off (although you have to be there six months I beleive). This is what DH tells me, and he has gone through this with employees in the past.
It all depends on what you do and what kind of company you work for (small companies have exemptions, for example) but its unethical and sometimes illegal to let someone go for announcing a pregnancy.
I guess, at the end of the day what I am trying to say is go for it. The job and the baby. And best best of luck.
