Babies: 9 - 12 Months

not drinking bottles

My son is 10 months and teething with his first tooth. Could this be the reason he is not drinking his bottles? He never really liked his bottles to begin with because he nursed but now he only drinks an ounce or 2 then stops. I've tried so many things. How can he get the nutrition that he should be getting?.Any tips?

Re: not drinking bottles

  • My DS was never a good drinker/eater. When he's teething he does not like the bottle at all. He will take down 1 or 2 oz at al time and even that would be a struggle. A lot of times DC will have to give him his milk mixed with oatmeal and feed through a spoon.
  • I mix the milk into his food.  Do you make your own baby food?  I thinned out the food with milk.  I also add cereal and then milk for added nutrition.  I can usually get about 2-3 more oz. in him that way.

Thank you, it seems i may have to try this cereal/oatmeal technique. I don't make his baby food, but if I had more time I definitely would.
  • I just went through this. Is he using a sippy cup? Mine would only take an ounce or two from a bottle and I about cried when I had to throw it out --- I nurse as well. After many days like this - we went to one bottle and one sippy cup - NUK with handles. After one day of him taking all of the cup and next to none of the bottle I went to all sippy cups. He was just under 10 months when we weaned. He is still nursed but takes all daycare milk from cups! Try it.
