Touching the belly

Looking for what to say to those at a shower that feel its ok to feel up the belly

Re: Touching the belly

  • Saw a cute shirt that said "if you didn't make it, please don't touch it" that might do it!

It depends who it is. Didnt happen at my shower. But when strangers do it, I reach in and rub theirs back.

  • I don't think I'd be uncomfortable with people touching my belly at my shower.

You could just subtly back up. They'll get the message.
  • I was honestly really worried about this for both of my showers. But, it turned out that everyone who would attend my shower knew me well enough to know that I wasn't comfortable with it, and the only person who touched my belly was my stepSIL, and I decided to pick my battles and just let it go....

I want that!!! My boyfriend is more weird about it than I am!

  • I really doubt you have to worry about it.  My mom said people used to do a lot when she was pg but I rarely see it in this day and age (unless it is great-grandma to be).  I guess it really wouldn't bother me since the people at my showers were all good friends and close family.

Intercept their hand and shake it.

Back away and say "Shh, the baby is sleeping. Do not disturb."

Pat their stomach back with an aggressive rub.
  • I probably worry too much about offending people, but I think I may just try to make light and say something like, "Oh, sorry, I'm ticklish!"
  • I find this trend totally disgusting.  I could see if it's your mom or a very close friend, but people in general?  Ugh.

I don't know what I would do, though.  I would just say that you don't feel comfortable with people touching your belly.

now i know how Nancy Kerrigan felt. that's insight into SCARY ISLAND. you have no clue what really went down.
  • I would say nothing. People don't think it's a big deal. They think your belly looks cute, they are excited for your baby..they don't look at it like they are touching "you" they look at it like they are touching your pregnant belly.

While it may be annoying for you, I don't think it's a big enough deal to make your guests feel uncomfortable .
