Trying to Get Pregnant

Implantation question

I know that the ready-made answer is that implantation takes place 7-10 days past ovulation give or take a few days, but I was wondering how common extreme aberrations from this norm take place.  For example, the drug Plan B is not always effective even if taken right away so that must mean that implantation can take place rather quickly, i.e. very close to the time of conception and ovulation.  Does anyone have any info about this?  Just curious.

Re: Implantation question

  • Plan B doesn't just affect implantation. Levonorgestrel works mainly by preventing ovulation or fertilization by altering tubal transport of sperm and/or ova. It can also affect the endometrium thus reducing the chance of implantation.

This is all true, but it doesn't really answer my question.  If Plan B is ineffective in suppressing ovulation and in thinning the lining and a woman becomes pregnant, then it means that ovulation and implantation happened very close together.

No it doesn't. When Plan B doesn't work, ovulation and implantation happen as normal, but the fertilized egg is still able to implant, even with a thinned lining. Or the person was already pregnant.

Crazier things have happened and no drug is 100%.

What exactly are you asking, then? Are you looking for specific examples of "aberrations"?

Oh ok.  So you're saying that when Plan B is ineffective it means that it failed to do what it's supposed to do in suppressing ovulation and preventing implantation; it's not that implantation happened already.  Gotcha.  I wasn't looking at it from that perspective.  Thanks.

Not really. I was just wondering more about how the drug worked I guess. Maybe the title of my post should have been Plan B question, but that would be weird for a TTGP board. I was thinking about it because someone I know took Plan B and it didn't work (she ended up pregnant).

Or a similar article about how Plan B works. You will get better information than a bunch of strangers on an internet message board.
