Brushing while teething...

I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I haven't been brushing LO's baby teeth this week because he has a few teeth coming in at the same time and he's already miserable, plus I have to get toddler toothpaste since we're out...

Am I horrible or do other people skip brushings when your LO is teething?

Re: Brushing while teething...

  • Honestly, I'm lucky if I get it done a few days a week. I'm terrible at remembering.

  • Will he chew on a cold wet rag?  DD2 has been doing that recently, she is getting all 4 eye teeth.

  • My babe brushes better when teething. She bites down a lot.

I rotate among bumpy round (pre toothbrush) one, to brush ring & the one that looks like a banana.

I brush when she brushes, so she now understands that we have to do it in the morning and before sleep.

Between brushes, I often play with a gauge in her mouth. She wipes her face, bites & chew on it & brings it everywhere.

  • Maybe give her a toothbrush to chew on if she won't let you get it in her mouth. Brushing is non negotiable here though. We were doing 2x a day but our dentist said one good brushing a day was fine. But DS has like 9 or 10 teeth and gets monster breath in the morning if I don't brush.
  • My son's been throwing a fit if I try to brush lately.  And I was doing it pretty much every night.  I've been skipping a night here and there too.  He hates it right now!
  • Brushing while teething can help the tooth erupt...  it can break up the gum a little and make it easier for them. Just use water when you don't have your toddler toothpaste.
