adjusted vs. actual age

I realize that milestones are based.on.adjusted age, but what about other stuff like teething and sleeping and growing out of.reflux/dairy protein intolerance? My girls are almost 5months actual, 3m adjusted, and they still do a LOT of sleeping. Today they were up.for.an.hour this morning and then one hard.core slept.from 94. The other catnapped a bit instead, but now it is 6pm and.i think.they are done.for.the day. I have yet to establish any sort of.routine with them, because it isn't always.like this. I.try to.go.with their cues, but i am.having a.lot.of.trouble trying.to.figure out what is "normal" for their age b/c i never know which age to.go by. I wouldn't bequite as concerned except i.always wonder if.they are sick i have a 6 year.old.first grader and a two year.old. it has been.constant illness.all.winter; luckily nothing has made babies.noticably ill. Sorry.for.rambling...i am.just a bit.confused.

Pretty much assume that they will be acting like their adjusted age. But babies are fickle creatures so you really just need to go with what they seem to need no matter what the age. If they're sleeping I would assume they need the sleep unless there are other signs of illness.

  • I would just follow their lead and worry less about what they should be doing age wise. My DS was only 5 weeks early and some ways he goes by adjusted and some his birth age. He was a sleepy baby for atleast the first 3 months, he's 4 months 3 adjusted now. Baby's know when they need to sleep or eat so just go with it.
  • Logically, i know those are the right answers, so thank you for the reassurance.  i have a touch (ha! understatement) of anxiety issues, so try as i might to remain logical, sometimes the anxiety creeps in.
