do you zumba?

so i have about 15-20lbs of baby weight left to lose and then another 10-15lbs on top of it that i want to lose. i HATE exercising. i have asthma so i don't really run. i do walks with the kids (and we do have a jogging stroller so i can get a pretty good speedwalk going). I don't want to spend money on a gym membership because i'm not going back to work until after the summer and i don't enjoy the gym. i have lots of workout DVD's and have had success in the past with them. i have some jillian michaels and i have the p90x videos (i dont follow the 90 day plan i just use the workouts because they're good). but all of these are BORING. like i said, working out is just tedious and unenjoyable to me. so i ordered some zumba DVDs. i know nothing about zumba other than people find it fun but i won't go to a class. what am I in for here? oh, and i was a dancer so do i have an edge here? LOL.

  • I didn't like the classes because I don't want to watch myself looking a fool.  But it was pretty fun.

  • I love it. I especially love taking the classes but I think the DVDs would be fun, too. My favorite part is that I'm so busy concentrating on the choreography that I don't have time to think about getting tired or bored.  The hour goes by in a blink! Eta:typos

  • I've tried it a couple of times. It just wasn't my thing at all.

If you were a dancer you will have a blast at zumba. My BFF was a cheerleader and she loves it. I end up looking like a beached whale having a seizure but it is still a lot of fun. I would say coordination is definitely an edge.

i was a cheerleader too. and i LOL'd at beached whale having a seizure. i havent danced in years so i may look like that to start!

I love it! I am not a dancer by any means. I have Zumba for Wii. Also anytime I have taken a class, there have been people of ALL levels. So if you feel like a novice about 75% is also a novice!
  • My sister teaches it, so I go to class regularly (3-4 times a week on top of my other workouts.)  Last night I taught a song for her because she was not feeling well and needed a break.  I've seen awesome results from it, especially in my abs/core area.

I never did the DVDs though. When my sister started teaching I just started taking her classes.

Oh and I was not a dancer or cheerleader or anything, so it took me awhile to get the hang of it.  But once I knew the routines I was able to work on my form, and now I'd say I'm pretty decent at it.

  • I tried to go to a class on Monday and I had to leave after 20 min. I have flat feet and I thought my Asics were good for me until I tried to dance in them. My arches were on fire. Maybe I should try a video before I go back to the class and make another fool out of myself.
  • I love Zumba but I prefer the classes over the DVDs, mostly because the classes are different each time and there's more energy in the room than doing them at home. But it's definitely different than your typical workout DVD which helps.
