DS is 13 months and has some kind of stomach bug. He's vomited five times since 1am. We are seeing the doctor this afternoon.
In the mean time, how do I get this kid to take fluids? He was crying for his milk this morning but I have heard milk isn't good when they have stomach bugs. He took one sip of pedialyte and pushed it away. I had my husband buy some apple juice but he has never had juice before so I'm not sure how he'll react but he fell back asleep before I could try it. Do I need to he putting it in a medicine syringe and forcing little bits at a time or do I let him drink when he feels like it?
Re: The dreaded stomach bug
I would call the pedi but I think you might want to try Gatorade for your DS. My pedi said most kids hate the taste of pedialite (& if you try it) it's pretty nasty. I'd stay away from the milk if you can-if he get's sick again the milk puke is the worst to clean up.
DD has the stomach bug a few weeks ago. The Dr. said not to give her milk b/c it's hard on her stomach. She said pedialyte and Gatorade are best.
I also used coconut water, which is a natural way to hydrate and replenish electrolytes and it has the added benefit of easing the nausea as well. You might see if your LO likes that.
I'm not sure how to get him to take it other than to keep offering it. The syringe might work (I didn't try that).
Hope he feels better soon! I know how horrible this bug can be.
