Frustrating- a vent.

So, it turns out that we will not be starting in May, as I got a call Wednesday from my RE saying that my bloodwork from April 1st came back and my thyroid levels were low, and that she suggests I wait on TTC and to call my primary to see a (non-fertility) endocrinologist. Once my levels are stable, then she recommends starting. The really ironic part was that I was at my primary getting my routine physical when she called. Too bad I didn't listen to the message until I got home.

It is such a letdown, as we did that bloodwork in April and were told she would call us if anything was amiss. So, due to them dropping the ball and never calling me with results, I had ordered vials, had them shipped to the RE' office, and have been waiting anxiously for next week. So much for that. :(

My wife called my RE to let her know that we would not be charged for vial storage, as it was her mistake for not getting back to us after the results had come in. My wife also said that she was unsure if I had thyroid issues, as I don't really have any symptoms. She also asked if me having the flu the week before my bloodwork would have thrown it off, and my RE said it could potentially be why my levels dropped significantly.

Today (after a few phone calls begging to get my bloodwork done) I'm going in to my primary's office for a blood draw so I can have results ready to go the day of my new Endocrinologist appointment at the beginning of June. It really sucks to have to wait another month to be told if I do have thyroid issues that require treatment, or that I don't have any issues at all and really could have done my May cycle.

I really hope it was just my flu interfering with my thyroid levels. I will be so upset after going through all this other testing just to find out that there are more significant issues at hand.

Sorry to vent when I'm so new ladies, It's just been a terribly disappointing few days and I had to vent it somewhere!

  • I understand the feeling of being let down. I had two instances of being let down my first IUI was set for january and for some unexpected (unmedical related) problems we had to postpone and then we moved forward with our IUI in March after March I was on Clomid was told at CD10 ultrasound that egg count and sizes were great she left the room I was so happy and then the docotor cam in to just tell me that I had a pylop so that I had to pass on that IUI.

Thins do happen for a reason (though people dont like to hear that including myself when you want something so bad), But I know that now that I am trying my anxiety and stress level has dropped I have been going for acupunture and I am starting to feel better about the whole process and not so let down. Time will fly by. Wishing you both the best.

  • Oh ug! That is terrible she didn't call you sooner! And, frankly, for pregnancy a lower thyroid (TSH) is better than high, but best you see an endocrinologist - mine is crazy detailed and made me come every 3 weeks as your thyroid being off is a huge driver of early miscarriage.

I'm so sorry you have to wait - but getting a BFP and losing the baby due to thyroid matters would be so much worse. And, my 2 cents - definitely go with the endo's recommendation - my PCP said "oh, you're fine" and even my MFM said "we look for a TSH under 2.5" while my Endo is like "I want to see between .55 and 1.1" - endo's are way more detailed about this matter.

So so so sorry for the huge disappointment though. :( Hang in there and hopefully you'll be on your way soon!

  • I am so sorry about the disappointment! I know I would be upset also.

I agree things happen for a reason, and you and your wife will have a LO at the moment it is supposed to happen.
